High Plains Acquires Additional Ground at Allemand Ross

CHEYENNE, WYOMING--(CCNMatthews - May 15, 2006) -

High Plains Uranium, Inc. ("High Plains") (TSX: HPU) announced today several favourable activities relating to the Allemand Ross Project located in the southern Powder River Basin in Converse County, Wyoming.

- High Plains has leased 2,240 acres of fee minerals covering uranium mineralization in the Bear Creek area of the project. This acquisition is a key component to the Allemand Ross Project.

- High Plains Uranium will acquire from the landowner drill hole and roll front maps as well as 850 regional drill logs, with 325 drill logs within or near the proposed permit boundary. This acquisition will greatly assist High Plains in the evaluation of the mineral resources contained within this project area. This data acquisition will assist in the preparation of the state Permit to Mine and the NRC Source Materials License applications.

- Permitting processes, already underway include land use, wildlife and vegetation studies, as well as the pre-mining baseline climatological data study.

In addition, High Plains recently acquired the Armand Morris data set. This data set contains drill data, maps and reports on uranium exploration programs throughout the Rocky Mountain Region with the main emphasis on Wyoming properties.

These strategic acquisitions are a part of High Plains' aggressive property acquisition and development strategy in the Western United States. The Wyoming properties now total in excess of 54,000 acres (21,853 hectares) and the Texas properties now total in excess of 7,000 acres (2,832 hectares).

High Plains Uranium is a Wyoming based uranium exploration and development company focused on the development of uranium deposits in Wyoming and Texas, which are amenable to In Situ Leach mining methods.
