Hire a Student Week at Service Canada Centre for Youth-Medicine Hat

MEDICINE HAT, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - June 8, 2007) - Youth are celebrating Hire a Student Week at the Medicine Hat Service Canada Centre for Youth (SCCY). The Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development and Member of Parliament for Medicine Hat, offered the Centre his congratulations and invited workers and businesses to join in the festivities.

"On behalf of Canada's New Government, I am proud to promote Hire a Student Week activities at the Service Canada Centre for Youth in Medicine Hat. The Centre helps young people find information and resources to the get work experience they need for a successful future," said Minister Solberg. "Service Canada's slogan is People Serving People - and it reflects our Government's commitment to ensure Canadians can access reliable, useful assistance in person and closer to home."

SCCYs assist young people with resumes, cover letters and interview skills, and provide information on Government of Canada programs and services, wage rates, workplace health and safety and employment standards. In addition, SCCYs offer employers job posting services on the Internet and in the office, giving them access to hundreds of enthusiastic students.

"Hire A Student Week is a region-wide initiative for Service Canada Centres for Youth," said Teague Lamarche, supervisor of the Medicine Hat Centre. "This year, we are continuing our tradition of helping young people find summer employment, access that first job, or get career-related work experience."
