Hispanic Business Presents the Top 40 Companies for Hispanics

SANTA BARBARA, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 1, 2005 -- Unlike other "Best Company" lists, which focus on hiring or leadership, the Hispanic Business directory looks at how companies reach out to Hispanics in recruitment, promotion, procurement, philanthropy, and marketing.

McDonald's Corporation tops the list and attributes its success to franchisees, staff and suppliers. The company has launched an education program in which Spanish-speaking employees can learn English and English-speaking employees can learn Spanish, showing its commitment to cultural diversity and understanding.

While the goal may be the same for all the companies on the Top 40, the approach can vary by industry. PG&E for example, number 13 on the list, attends minority business events to meet suppliers. Last year they spent about $300 million with Hispanic suppliers.

The accomplishments of the Top 40 companies are impressive, for example, 51 percent of SBC Communications' new hires were people of color.

The complete list and coverage of the Top 40 companies can be found in the September issue of Hispanic Business magazine, and at
