Holiday Magic Returns: West-End Nutcracker Performance Celebrates 24 Years

Bouman production Toronto's longest standing performance of famous ballet Tickets on sale now

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 16, 2009) - Pia Bouman School for Ballet and Creative Movement, a Parkdale-based not-for-profit organization, along with presenting sponsor Scotiabank, invite Toronto to be a part of the school's 24th annual performance of Nutcracker.

Tickets go on sale today for Bouman's full-length production, which is currently the longest standing performance of this classic holiday ballet in Toronto. Performances run from Thursday, December 17 through Sunday, December 20.

"For 24 years we've shared this seasonal classic and played a part in Toronto's holiday cheer," says Pia Bouman, artistic director and founder of Pia Bouman School for Ballet and Creative Movement. "My Nutcracker production has never been the same twice, so each year we give our audience a little something different to enjoy in addition to the enchanting story they already know and love."

"We look forward to this year's unique production of the Nutcracker by Pia Bouman School for Ballet and Creative Movement, and encourage families to come and enjoy themselves during the holidays," says John Doig, Scotiabank Senior Vice-President, Marketing. "Scotiabank is proud to support arts and culture in our communities and especially proud to support the school's philosophy that 'anyone who wants to dance should be given the opportunity.' By supporting educational programs like the school's, we hope to give young people the experiences to develop their potential, ultimately enriching themselves and the community around them."

Being a part of Bouman's production of Nutcracker has been a holiday tradition for west-end Toronto school children and their families for 23 years. Now in its 24th season, more than 100 young dancers will share the stage with siblings or parents and grandparents. It is a massive effort from both performers and volunteers that brings this production to a seasonal high.

Bouman's Nutcracker is newly choreographed each year to the current cast and uses more than 1,000 props and costumes.

Proceeds from the production help to sustain the school's high caliber programs and Bursary Fund. This bursary helps young dancers pursue their dreams of learning dance performance and creation.
