Home Healthcare Leader Selects McKesson to Create Paperless Environment

Proven, Comprehensive Horizon Homecare Solution Tapped to Achieve Standardized Care, Operational Efficiency and Enhanced Patient Outcomes

ATLANTA, GA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- August 29, 2006 -- Addus HealthCare, one of the largest home healthcare agencies in the United States, has selected McKesson's Horizon Homecare™ solution in a two-phase initiative to automate and standardize clinical processes across 90 services branches in 12 states. Once complete, the initiative is expected to fully support Addus' goal to create a paperless environment to drive enhanced operational efficiency, standardized care processes, and improved patient outcomes.

In the initial phase, Addus will deploy the Horizon Homecare™ Agency Management System across 30 skilled service branches and roll out point-of-care clinical documentation to nearly 300 clinicians via laptops, enabling them to chart patient care as it is delivered. The second phase calls for implementing the agency management solution to more than 60 of its in-home health services branches.

McKesson and Addus also plan to work together to tap the agency's extensive experience in an effort to incorporate new functionality geared to the particular needs of private duty agencies into future releases of the Horizon Homecare application.

"We needed a mature, proven system that could help us standardize care and ensure quality outcomes for our patients," said David Stasiewicz, chief financial officer for Addus. "We identified Horizon Homecare as the most comprehensive scheduling, point-of-care, billing and reimbursement solution. McKesson's history of product development and depth of experience with organizations of all sizes means that it will be there to help support our current and long-term goals for improving patient care."

Stasiewicz explained that by going paperless, Addus expects to transform many manual processes to automated information delivery to divert staff time spent on paperwork to more time caring for patients. "The fact that Horizon Homecare is a truly integrated system, including laptops, point-of-care, scheduling and telephony, is integral to our strategic business plan going forward," he said. "Not only will we simplify documentation in administrative areas, but we will equip our staff with the clinical tools they need to more fully engage with their patients."

With an aging population placing greater demand on healthcare resources, Addus represents a growing trend among healthcare providers to seek solutions that can more effectively utilize staff resources. The current cost of managing chronic illnesses, which affect nearly 132 million Americans, represents about 75 percent of total healthcare spending.

McKesson leads the industry in supporting the information needs of homecare organizations. The Horizon Homecare solution provides homecare and hospice organizations an integrated, single database system for office clinical, personnel scheduling, point-of-care, revenue cycle management, physician access operational analysis and supply management. Horizon Homecare is the foundation for McKesson's strategy to expand the healthcare infrastructure to include home technologies to address the growing need for homecare delivery. More than 19,000 nurses and other clinicians rely on Horizon Homecare to support more than 42 million patient visits per year in the home.

"Addus HealthCare is a leader in the homecare industry and shares McKesson's perspective on how the healthcare system should be transformed to better support the patient," said Craig Frazier, McKesson's vice president and general manager of Extended Care Solutions. "By working together, we can use our individual experiences to benefit each other and every Horizon Homecare user."
