Hong Kong Chinese New Year Festival Celebrations

CATHAY PACIFIC INTERNATIONAL CHINESE NEW YEAR NIGHT PARADE GIVES ROARING START TO FESTIVE HONG KONG 2010 (14 February 2010 Chinese New Year Day)

Attention: News Editor, Travel/Tourism Editor, World News Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO, MEDIA ALERT--(Marketwire - Feb. 12, 2010) - In celebration of the Year of the Tiger, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) will present the Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Night Parade on the first evening of the Chinese New Year (14 February 2010).

Hong Kong enjoys a global reputation for its vibrant Chinese New Year celebrations, which give the perfect setting for HKTB to roll out a new annual marketing platform, Festive Hong Kong 2010, when we will show to the world the excitement that awaits our visitors. The Chinese New Year Parade will comprise of four major segments: spring, summer, autumn and winter. Through a variety of performances, it will showcase Hong Kong's fusion of Chinese and Western festivities. This year, the first day of the Lunar New Year arrives on the Valentine's Day, the visitors and residents can savour the best "East meets West" festive atmosphere.

The Chinese New Year Parade will feature a strong line-up, with a total of 40 performing groups from 14 countries and regions, including 14 elaborately decorated floats, 13 international and 13 local performing troupes. Among these, 18 groups are making their debut appearance this year, including such internationally famous teams as Notting Hill Carnival from the UK, Morioka Sansa Odori Dance from Japan, the Arezzo Flag Wavers from Italy and the Paris Firemen from France.

To facilitate the coverage of the event, the HKTB has arranged satellite live feed (free to air) of the last 30-min programme for use by television broadcasters worldwide. Pls refer to below for details.

About Festive Hong Kong 2010
Festive Hong Kong 2010 is the annual marketing theme of the HKTB in 2010-11, which is designed for encouraging visitors to come experience the unique culture, as well as the colourful fusion of Chinese and Western festivities that could only be found in Hong Kong. Throughout the year, the HKTB will organise a series of mega events, which will be promoted along with the traditional festivals and cultural celebrations, as well as major events launched by third parties. The HKTB aims to further elevate Hong Kong's image as the Events Capital of Asia, and create greater business opportunities for the tourism, retail, dining and service sectors of the city.
