The Horatio Alger Association annually awards more than $12 million in
college scholarships to American high school students and military
veterans.

scholarship programs in the country. The scholarships are awarded to
students who have demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming
adversity and hardships in their lives while demonstrating strength of
character, strong academics, commitment to pursue a college education and
desire to contribute to society.
Students from all 50 states, including the District of Columbia and Puerto
Rico, are encouraged to apply for the National Scholarship Programs. In
2007, the Association awarded $20,000 to each of the 105 scholarship
recipients. The State Scholarship Programs are sponsored by Horatio Alger
Members and friends of the Association in select states, with a goal to
create programs in all 50 states. In 2007, the program awarded over 1,200
state scholarships, and each provides financial assistance ranging from
$2,500 to $10,500.
