Howard Technology Solutions to Bundle and Resell SecureD Hard Drive Encryption With Howard and Panasonic Computers

Howard Offers Medical and Government Organizations Rugged and Semi-Rugged Notebooks That Are Protected Physically and Logically

CHARLOTTE, NC--(Marketwire - November 6, 2007) - High Density Devices, a leading provider of hardware-based hard drive encryption technology, today announced that Howard Technology Solutions will bundle and resell High Density Device's SecureD hardware-based hard drive encryption technology with Howard's semi-rugged notebooks and with Panasonic Toughbooks.

Howard Technology Solutions will resell the encrypted notebooks to the medical and government markets -- two industry segments that have large mobile work forces and need to transport sensitive information. The notebooks can be used for professionals ranging from roaming doctors to troops in combat.

The notebooks will include the SecureD proprietary very high speed integrated circuit (VHSIC) hardware description language (VHDL) encryption core which uses dedicated mechanisms to handle keys and encode data at true wire-line speed. A filed-programmable gate array (FPGA) implementation of the core has been validated as a self-contained encryption module to Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 level 3 and Common Criteria EAL4+ (evaluation assurance level). The core encryption algorithms carry separate FIPS certificates, and the 256-bit strength advanced encryption standard (AES) cipher used is regarded as a technology standard.

SecureD eliminates the risk of data theft or misuse -- even if the computer containing the data is lost or stolen. SecureD's military-strength encryption is platform agnostic, transparent in operation and works completely without software or human input.

"Our goal is to provide the market with 'bullet proof' notebooks. We're now offering rugged and semi-rugged notebooks that are protected at the physical and logical level," commented Tim Beech, technical marketing manager for Howard Technology Solutions. "To protect the data stored on notebooks, we evaluated software and hardware-based encryption products for hard drives, and we selected SecureD. The hardware approach can attain a higher level of security certification than software can, and when coupled with the fact that the SecureD chip doesn't put a drain on processing times as encryption software does, we decided it was the right choice for our offerings."

Howard Technology Solutions will offer the SecureD hard-drive encryption technology as an upgrade option for the computers.

"Protecting data on notebooks removes a major risk for mobile workers," commented Jim Worrell, TITLE for High Density Devices. "Howard Technology Solutions is now providing some of the best protected computers on the market. We're excited to be a part of this endeavor."
