Hydro Ottawa Appeals for Electricity Conservation in Barrhaven Until 9:00 Tonight

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 25, 2009) - Hydro Ottawa is asking customers in the Barrhaven area to conserve power throughout the day, as efforts are still underway to fully restore the electrical system after an outage that impacted the area last night. Alternate power routing was put in place to restore power to all customers, but the system is operating at reduced capacity. With a forecast of warm temperatures today (June 25) Hydro Ottawa is asking customers in the area bounded by Fallowfield Road to the north, Prince of Wales Drive to the east, Barnsdale Road to the south and Highway 416 to the west to take conservation measures until 9:00 pm tonight.

Customers are asked to avoid the use of major electrical appliances such as air conditioning, washers, driers and dishwashers. Reduced use of all other non-essential electrical appliances and lighting is encouraged.

Last night's power outage began at 5:15 p.m. affecting more than 10,000 customers in the Barrhaven area. Power restoration occurred in stages with all customers back on line by 9:45 pm. The cause of the outage was a loss of electricity supply from the provincial grid.

Hydro Ottawa thanks our customers for their assistance and understanding. For more information on electricity conservation, visit www.hydroottawa.com/conservation.
