Hydro Ottawa to Host Energy Conference: Powering a Green Future, 2007 Energy and Conservation Symposium

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 12, 2007) - On November 13th and 14th, Hydro Ottawa Limited and presenting sponsor Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc. will be hosting "Powering a Green Future" at the Hampton Inn Ottawa and Conference Centre. This fourth annual energy and conservation symposium and trade show is the only conference of its kind in the nation's capital, bringing Ottawa business leaders together to network with industry peers and experts to learn about market opportunities and smart energy strategies.

"Conservation and demand management is an essential part of meeting Ontario's future energy needs. As a community-focused company, we want to play an active role in ensuring Ottawa continues to be a leader in this area," said Rosemarie T. Leclair, President and CEO of the Hydro Ottawa Group of Companies. "This conference allows Hydro Ottawa to reach out to our business customers, to ensure that they have the latest information about energy conservation products, technologies, services and incentive programs that can help them reduce their energy consumption, improve their bottom line and benefit the environment."

To kick-start the conference, Leclair will present the second 'Companies for Conservation' award to the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) in recognition of their recently completed energy efficient retrofit. The 'Companies for Conservation' program, which started in October, recognizes one local company or organization for their conservation leadership every month. "By celebrating their efforts, we hope to inspire others at the conference to follow suit," said Leclair.

Conference participants will have the opportunity to hear from representatives from all sectors of the electricity market including Vipin Prasad, Director Conservation Integration, Ontario Power Authority (OPA), Derek Cowbourne, Chief Operating Officer, Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), and Emed Elsayed, Vice President Hydroelectric Development, Ontario Power Generation (OPG).

Already generating excitement is the keynote address on wind power from Pierre Rivard, President and CEO, Magenn Power Inc., which is on the agenda for Wednesday, November 14th. Magenn Power Inc. is an Ottawa based company focused on delivering next generation wind turbines. The Magenn Air Rotor System (MARS) is a "Wind Power Anywhere" solution with the ability to operate up to 1000 feet in any location. MARS is an innovative lighter-than-air tethered device that rotates about a horizontal axis in response to wind, efficiently generating clean renewable electrical energy at a lower cost than competing systems. Powering a Green Future 2007 is targeted to more than 100 of Hydro Ottawa's largest customers, which collectively account for approximately 35 per cent of Ottawa's total electricity demand. These customers include high tech companies, retail organizations, regional hospitals, universities and colleges, insurance companies and many other large commercial clients and federal government departments.
