IBM On Demand Technology Powers City of Orlando

Major Destination Utilizes on Network of IBM iSeries Systems for Municipal Operations

ARMONK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- October 18, 2005 -- IBM today announced that the City of Orlando utilizes the ultra-secure and reliable IBM on demand technology for various City operations.

Seven IBM eServer iSeries systems support the City's operations for more than 150 government facilities including City Hall, the fire department and police department.

Recently, the City's street and horse patrol police became equipped with hand-held PDAs, allowing them to "talk" directly to the iSeries platform eliminating paper reports saving the department valuable time and money. Police officers can use their laptops stationed in patrol cars enabling them to access data, run background checks and submit reports.

"By using the iSeries system, Orlando and many other city governments can realize the benefits and solutions delivered by this simple system that creates an on demand environment," says Mark Shearer, general manager, IBM eServer iSeries. "IBM is pleased to know that the iSeries system remains the trusted platform for the City of Orlando to run important processes."
