IRONSMITH, INC. Products Receive Green Approved Status

PALM DESERT, CA--(Marketwire - May 5, 2010) -  IRONSMITH, INC. has just received Green Approved status for several of their ADA compliant hardscaping products: Tree Grates, Paver-Grate™, Trench Grates, and respective Embedded Framing Systems under the NAHB Research Center National Green Building Certification program.

IRONSMITH, INC. produces a line of finely designed and crafted cast metal products that integrate trees and water management into the landscape with a distinctive look. "We believe our products provide builders and land developers opportunities to maximize their offerings through sustainable building practices outlined in the National Green Building Standard," explained Paul Bambauer, IRONSMITH's President. "Trees are one of the best ways to reduce high solar reflection from hardscapes, helping to cool buildings, pedestrians, and whole cities -- our products support those practices," he added.

The Green Approved mark comes from the National Association of Home Builders' Research Center (NAHBRC) offering third-party verification. It is provided to manufacturers whose products contribute toward a building achieving certification by the Research Center in accordance with the National Green Building Standard, ICC 700-2008. The Standard is an ANSI-approved, consensus-based standard that offers builders, remodelers, and land developers the ability to plan sustainable building projects.

To be Green Approved, IRONSMITH's products meet the criteria on sustainability and innovative practices for achieving points utilizing the Standard's Green Scoring Tool at www.nahbgreen.org. Using IRONSMITH's cast products provides points in several categories as builders and land developers strive to attain Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Emerald Certification under the National Green Building Standard, ICC 700-2008.

IRONSMITH, INC. is a manufacturer of ADA compliant, fully customizable, cast products made from 100% recycled materials. All of IRONSMITH's Tree, Paver, and Trench Grates are designed to take heavy pedestrian loads without bowing, flexing or movement. No grates have openings larger than ½", preventing heels, wheels, canes and crutch tips from getting caught.

The Paver-Grate™ paver suspension system permits pavers to be suspended directly above the tree pit area. This allows a seamless look while preserving air and water circulation and soil compaction and roots from lifting pavers.

The NAHB Research Center located in Upper Marlboro, MD, serves as the certification agent for the National Green Building Program. As an independent research and testing organization, the Research Center has both the capacity, expertise, and credentials to ensure consistency, rigor, and credibility for the certification process.

The National Green Building Standard, ICC 700-2008, is the first ANSI consensus standard on Green Building for residential construction, and was a collaborative effort between the International Code Council (ICC) and NAHB. The Standard provides sustainable practices for new homes, multifamily, remodeling, hotels/motels, and building sites.
