IdentiGen Solidifies Ties to Canadian Business and Research Communities

Announces Canadian wholly-owned subsidiary in conjunction with the Enterprise Ireland Trade Mission to Canada led by the Deputy Prime Minister Mary Coughlan T.D.

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Oct. 21, 2009) - As part of its growing business in Canada, IdentiGEN Ltd., a leading provider of DNA-based meat traceability solutions, has established a wholly-owned subsidiary in Canada. IdentiGEN works with a number of Albertan organizations, including The Government of Alberta's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Sturgeon Valley Pork, to scientifically track meat from the farm to the retail store.

The company also has entered into an agreement with the University of Alberta in Edmonton to collaborate on genomics research in livestock to improve value chains. In the collaboration, IdentiGEN will work with the Alberta Ingenuity Centre for Livestock Genomics Technology, a new venture that plans to research livestock genomic technologies.

"IdentiGEN recognizes the need for greater efforts to demonstrate to the livestock sector the potential for DNA-based technology to help differentiate products, and to better meet the changing demands of consumers for healthier, safer food produced in an environmentally sensitive and sustainable fashion," said Stephen Moore, leader of the Alberta Ingenuity Centre.

These announcements coincided with the visit of Mary Coughlan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment of the Republic of Ireland, who is visiting Canada as part of its Enterprise Ireland Canada Trade Mission. IdentiGEN co-founder, President & CEO, Ronan Loftus, and Dennis McKerracher, IdentiGEN's Canadian representative based in Alberta, were in attendance at trade mission events in Edmonton.
