Illinois Heart and Vascular Lab Accredited by American College of Radiology

Premium Compact Ultrasound System From ZONARE Medical Systems Used for All Vascular Applications

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - August 6, 2008) - Illinois Heart and Vascular Lab (IHAV) of Hinsdale, Ill. was recently awarded a three-year term of accreditation for vascular ultrasound services by the American College of Radiology (ACR). IHAV uses the ultrasound system from ZONARE Medical Systems of Mountain View, Calif. for all of its vascular imaging including peripheral vascular, cerebrovascular, abdominal vascular and deep abdominal vascular applications. The ultrasound system is based on ZONARE's Zone Sonography™ technology and Convertible Ultrasound™ platform.

"We use the system exclusively for vascular imaging and we are very happy with the image quality as well as its performance on difficult-to-image patients where deep penetration is needed to make more accurate diagnoses," said Edgar Carell, M.D., director of the Vascular Lab at Illinois Heart and Vascular. "The system is very light and easy to move around between exam rooms, and as a result, our technicians prefer this system over conventional ultrasound because of its premium image quality and portability."

The ultrasound platform provides physicians with premium image quality, performance and features offered by traditional cart-based systems and the portability and ease of use offered by hand carried ultrasound units. Clinicians can convert the ultrasound system, at the touch of a button, from a small and light full-featured, cart-based system into a self-contained, five-pound laptop-sized unit, optimizing its versatility in a variety of clinical settings, without sacrificing image quality or performance.

According to Kim S. Todd, RVT, RDCS, technical director of the Echovascular Lab at IHAV, who has been performing vascular ultrasound exams for over 20 years and echocardiography imaging for 25 years, "The image quality and depth resolution with the system is like no other ultrasound system I have ever used. I never imagined such a small machine could have this level of premium image quality, but the has proven itself over and over again and is truly the system of choice in our lab."

The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine and medical physicians. The esteemed organization awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment.
