In LaSalle, it's 40 km/hr in all Residential Areas

Starting October 1, 2007, the speed limit in all residential areas of the borough of LaSalle will be 40 km/hr. The introduction of this new measure reflects the Borough's will to maintain a safe, peaceful environment in all residential areas and to ensure all residents' safety.

LASALLE, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Oct. 1, 2007) - Starting October 1, 2007, the speed limit in all residential areas of the borough of LaSalle will be 40 km/hr. The introduction of this new measure reflects the Borough's will to maintain a safe, peaceful environment in all residential areas and to ensure all residents' safety.

At the heart of all boroughs' concerns

Speeding problems affect all municipalities and are at the heart of the concerns of all boroughs within Ville de Montreal. In March 2006, the City therefore announced its road safety recommendations, including one that proposed replacing the 50 km/hr speed limit throughout the municipal roads network with a 40 km/hr one. Since LaSalle's task force and focus group on speeding had already contemplated this change in regulations, LaSalle's Borough Council considered it to be perfectly in keeping with its concern to make LaSalle's residential areas even safer.

After setting up many measures to control speeding and improve safety on the streets-awareness campaigns, new signs, road markings, speed bumps and humps and radar operations-LaSalle is therefore following suit, on the heels of the most dynamic municipalities with regard to prevention of speeding problems, by reducing the speed limit to 40 km/hr, from now on, in all its residential areas. This decision demonstrates the fact that LaSalle continues to be a leader in road safety matters.

Slow down!

A vast awareness campaign will be conducted in order to publicize this new speed limit among all residents, whether pedestrians, cyclists or motorists. Last week, a letter signed by Police Station 13 Commander Pierre Rousseau was sent to all LaSalle residents, notifying them of this new speed limit. Various awareness methods will be implemented to reach all motorists travelling on LaSalle territory: billboards, pages of advertising, reminder cards, etc. In addition, the police will be carrying out radar operations on a regular basis in order to encourage motorists to drive carefully.

The new speed limit of 40 km/hr in residential areas in LaSalle is one of the ways of contributing toward improving LaSalle residents' quality of life and helping them feel safer.
