Industry Analyst Firm Recognizes Ventyx as a Leader in Customer Care and Billing Systems

Ventyx Solutions Included in Short List of CIS Vendors

ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwire - December 17, 2009) - Ventyx®, the world's largest private software, data and advisory services provider to the energy and utility industry, today announced the company has been ranked as a leading provider of customer care and billing systems by prominent industry research firm, IDC Energy Insights.

Ventyx is listed among the industry's preeminent vendors of customer information systems (CIS) and customer relationship management (CRM) billing solutions in the firm's recently published "Vendor Assessment: Customer Care and Billing Industry Short List -- Customer Care in the New Energy Economy" report. The report focuses on the "new energy economy" and the ability of traditional customer management systems to incorporate new strategies such as smart metering, dynamic pricing, demand response and energy efficiency.

"The new energy economy and new technologies such as advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and smart metering are changing the way utilities serve their customers. And, the customer care and billing system will need to accommodate these changes," said Jill Feblowitz, practice director of IDC Energy Insights. "Ventyx has thought more about some of the key issues facing utilities in the new energy economy than other vendors. The company has a well-developed vision of one important aspect -- how will companies be able to balance their new generation resources... This viewpoint guides the development of the customer care and billing applications offered by Ventyx."

The report also recognizes Ventyx for its successful implementation of the Ventyx Smart Grid Operations Solution in Boulder, CO, the nation's first fully integrated SmartGridCity™. The solution transforms complex meter-level data to an aggregated level called Virtual Power Plants to support commercial operations of the grid. And, it takes the day-ahead/balance-of-day plans from operations and creates price signals that can be put onto the customer data portal for customer choice or price options.

Ventyx also scores points in the report for the Smart Grid Retail Operations component of the solution deployed at Xcel Energy. Ventyx Smart Grid Retail produces the complex billing determinants associated with the evolving complex tariffs for Smart Grid demand response programs. Its complex billing capabilities support time of use (TOU), tiered pricing, block pricing, green pricing, and other options. And, it has granularity for retail-level determinants and integrates to Ventyx's own Customer Suite, or a third-party CIS to provide a complete billing solution. Smart Grid Retail also has granularity for billing of large agreements such as power purchase agreements taking into account the related complexity of the energy operations associated with the billing elements.

Feblowitz concludes, "Ventyx's thought leadership, participation in the SmartGridCity at Xcel Energy, and ability to access research and development funds through its private equity owner make the company's offerings worth consideration for utilities focused on meeting the challenges brought by the new energy economy."

"Ventyx is proud to be recognized by such a prestigious analyst firm as IDC Energy Insights, particularly as it relates to the customer care solutions that will play a vital role in the evolving energy and utilities industry," said Ventyx President and COO Steve Carpenter. "Our customer care and billing system is part of a broad suite of solutions designed for Smart Grid Operations, enabling utilities to process and act on complex information from across the entire energy value chain from generation to consumption. As a result, customer programs like Xcel Energy's SmartGridCity can increase operational efficiencies, maximize and optimize the use of distributed energy resources and help the energy consumer make more informed choices about how and when they use power."
