Infoblox Adds Integrated IP Address Management (IPAM) and VoIP Infrastructure Support to Its DNS and DHCP Appliance Solution

Enhanced DNSone™ and Keystone™ Modules Add Host of DNS and DHCP Feature; Extend Identity Appliance Advantages to New Customers and Applications

SUNNYVALE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 19, 2005 -- Infoblox Inc., a developer of essential infrastructure for identity-driven networks, today announced enhancements to the Infoblox DNSone™ and Keystone™ software modules for its market-leading line of network identity appliances. With the enhanced modules, Infoblox has delivered the industry's first appliance-based, integrated DNS, DHCP offering with built-in, rather than built-on, IP address management (IPAM) functionality, bringing affordable IP management services to a wide range of organizations.

IP address management systems provide tools that enable organizations to efficiently administer, monitor and report on the utilization of their limited pools of IP addresses. Conventional IPAM solutions that require dedicated hardware and software have been expensive to install and maintain, and therefore have been deployed by a relatively small number of large organizations. As demands on network infrastructure continue to increase, many more organizations, regardless of size, are seeking IPAM solutions that are robust, but without unnecessary cost and complexity.

"To manage IP addresses, most enterprises rely either on Excel spreadsheets and manual, labor-intensive processes, or on fairly complex IPAM applications, which can be very costly and difficult to administer," commented Dan Golding, senior analyst at industry research firm the Burton Group. "Faced with a host of challenges including the rapid growth in the number of network users and devices, increasing security concerns, the real-time requirements of mobile networking and the reporting requirements needed to meet new regulations like Sarbanes-Oxley, customers are demanding 'no-compromise' IPAM solutions that do not exhibit excessive levels of cost or complexity."

Integrated Solution Increases Manageability, Reliability, Real-time Performance

The new Infoblox DNSone version 3.2 module, in conjunction with the enhanced Keystone module, provides a powerful, appliance-based, integrated DNS and DHCP solution with built-in, sophisticated IPAM capabilities. The new solution provides unparalleled manageability, real-time performance and reliability advantages for nonstop domain name resolution (DNS), IP address assignment (DHCP), and IPAM services.

The fully integrated DNS, DHCP and IPAM solution is delivered on security-hardened, high-availability appliances and includes unified management, one-button, system-wide software upgrades, and seamless disaster recovery. Further, the Infoblox approach combines the simplicity of appliances with the power of advanced distributed database technology to provide the essential foundation for an identity-driven network (IDN), in which user and application-level security, accountability, and audit-ability are built into the network fabric. Key applications requiring these attributes and supported by the new solution include Network Access Control (NAC), compliance reporting for regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), and high-availability infrastructure for voice over IP (VoIP) services.

Additional Features Reduce Deployment Costs, Support Dynamic Device Configuration

In addition to new IPAM functionality, other DNSone version 3.2 enhancements include the new "Infoblox Views" feature, which, like BIND Views, allows a single Infoblox appliance to appear as multiple "virtual" DNS appliances, supporting, for example, both internal and external DNS services on a single device, simplifying deployments and lowering costs. The Infoblox Views feature takes advantage of core Infoblox technologies to extend and enhance the more common BIND Views features. For instance, the bloxSDB™ database built into all Infoblox appliances automatically enforces rules that eliminate the possibility of common configuration errors, and Keystone technology enables Views to be defined or changed once and automatically propagated to dozens of appliances.

The DNSone version 3.2 module also provides a new file distribution service, via the TFTP protocol. This allows for robust delivery and centralized management of firmware and configuration files for VoIP phones, cable modems, and wireless access points, among other devices, that require dynamic software and configuration updates.

"Enterprises are largely operating 'anonymous networks' where they have limited visibility or control over who is getting IP addresses and gaining access to IT resources," said Richard Kagan, vice president of marketing at Infoblox. "This anonymity is unacceptable as regulatory compliance concerns and security, reliability and scalability requirements are mounting. The new Infoblox DNS, DHCP and IPAM solution brings the benefits of identity-driven networks to a wide range of organizations and delivers cost-effective and manageable services that have previously been available only to the largest companies."
