Infoblox Announces bloxTools(TM) Environment Fostering Custom Application Development for Core Network Services (CNS)

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - September 29, 2008) - Infoblox Inc. today announced it has introduced the new Infoblox bloxTools™ environment, enabling users to develop, support and share custom applications that adapt Infoblox solutions to their unique requirements and that further automate and simplify IP address and core network services (CNS) related administrative tasks.

Many large enterprises have unique workflow and integration requirements for their core network services -- such as domain name resolution (DNS), IP address assignment (DHCP), and IP address management (IPAM). They also frequently need to integrate core network services provisioning processes and data with enterprise applications such as asset management, CRM, ERP, and others. Conventional CNS products have achieved this through complex interfaces that require significant initial and ongoing professional services engagements to create, customize and maintain them.

The new Infoblox bloxTools™ environment now allows Infoblox customers and partners to share the collective development efforts to easily achieve the same results without complex and expensive custom development efforts.

New bloxTools™ Environment Allows Application Customization for IPAM Advantages

The Infoblox bloxTools™ environment is a way for customers to develop, deploy, share and support customized, web-based applications that extend the power of the Infoblox grid -- Infoblox's unique technology that links together multiple Infoblox appliances allowing operation and management as a unified system.

Based on powerful Web 2.0 technologies and leveraging the power of Web communities, the bloxTools environment unleashes the full power and potential of the Infoblox NIOS platform and the creativity of resellers and customers to meet unique workflow and integration requirements.

The bloxTools runtime environment (BRE) is a logical "sandbox" supported by the NIOS operating system that can be enabled on an Infoblox grid master. The BRE provides a number of services, including a Web server, a scheduler and support for applications, otherwise known as "SNAPins" written in PERL, Python, CGI and other scripting languages. By supporting the BRE and SNAPins within the NIOS operating system, the environment and the SNAPins gain the benefits of Infoblox grid technology, including high-availability (HA), one-touch upgrades, automatic updating of applications across NIOS releases, and more.

Several "off-the-shelf" SNAPins are available from Infoblox, including:

-- GeoViewer -- allows users to quickly see the location and status of
    all Infoblox grid members on a Google map;
-- Web-based Operator Console -- provides a customizable web interface to
    common tasks for daily operations, such as adding a DNS record or a fixed
    address for a server;
-- Scheduler -- includes calendar widgets that provide an easy interface
    to schedule any script to run; and
-- Reporting -- provides historical performance graphs (hourly, daily,
    weekly, monthly, etc.) for key DNS and DHCP statistics such as leases/sec,
    queries/sec.; it also integrates with the GeoViewer SNAPin.

In addition to pre-written SNAPins, the open, community-based model for publishing and supporting additional applications harnesses the collective power of Infoblox's thousands of customers worldwide.

Availability

The new Infoblox bloxTools environment is now available to Infoblox customers worldwide running NIOS version 4.3r2 or above with a valid maintenance contract.
