Innovation Fusion Centre “Anti-Incubator” for Tech Entrepreneurs

The "Anti-Incubator" Innovation Fusion Centre, a 24/7 Club Atmosphere of Emerging Tech Companies, Launches in Markham

Attention: Business/Financial Editor, Tech/Telecomm Editor MARKHAM, ON--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 31, 2007) - The Innovation Fusion Centre, a club providing workspace and a social community for tech entrepreneurs and emerging companies, opened in Markham on January 1st, 2007 and hit 2/3rds capacity in 3 weeks.

"Traditional Incubator models aren't built for productivity" - says Fusion Centre founder Mr. Matthew Bodkin. "Companies don't want to feel obligated to give up equity and buy services they don't need."

The Innovation Fusion Centre is instead run like a club. Basic membership includes a dedicated furnished desk, all utilities, high-speed Internet, and use of a board room all for $250/month. The Centre operates 24/7 and only two months of commitment are required to cater to the growth dynamics of start-ups.

OmniDate run by serial entrepreneur Dr. Igor Kotlyar was the first member to join. His company has since been featured in Time Magazine for it's innovative approach to online dating. Dr. Kotlyar says "Matthew has created a terrific environment for jump-starting hi-tech companies. The Centre is infused with innovative spirit and entrepreneurial drive."

"Productivity needs a 24/7 environment to that encourages innovation and growth" says Bodkin who acknowledges much of his time spent building tech businesses with his company InnovationOne lies outside the standard 9-5 work day. "We provide the place, members screen new members, and suddenly we have a focused group that shares ideas, problems, and successes."

Mr. Rocco Panacci, a recent computer science graduate chose to start his software and web solutions business Vantage5 at the Centre. He says "One of the challenges in starting a business right out of University is working outside your comfort zone. It helps to share experiences with others in the same kind of situation with some experience in certain areas."

Mr. Suresh Adhikari had over 14 years of IT experience including 7 years with IBM Global Service before launching his own IT management company, Cosmic Information System, Inc that focuses on IT training, recruiting, consulting and outsourcing. He says "Innovation Fusion connects like minded entrepreneurs in a very supportive environment."

The "anti-incubator" model is being watched closely by the Town of Markham. Darren Ciastko the Town's Senior Business Development Officer says "The Innovation Fusion Centre provides a unique environment for first-time and experienced tech entrepreneurs to grow their business. Markham is Canada's High-Tech Capital and initiatives like this are consistent with the Town's objective to be a leader in technology and innovation."

The Centre is located in Markham's High Tech area south of Highway 7 off Woodbine Ave and is accessible from highways 404 and 407.
