"Inside LifeWay" Podcast Discusses Positive Impact of True Love Waits, Sexual Abstinence in Uganda

NASHVILLE, TN -- (MARKET WIRE) -- November 16, 2006 --Andrew Mwenge lives the Ugandan AIDS horror. His father had four wives and 23 children, nine of whom were with Mwenge's mother. Five of those nine have since died from AIDS. One of his remaining sisters is HIV-positive and the other one refuses to be tested. Only he and his brother know for certain that they are free of AIDS.

"Most of the people I grew up with in the village are not alive," he said. "If it was not for Christ, I wouldn't be here. I know that for a fact."

This week's edition of "Inside LifeWay" features a discussion with Mwenge, a pastor in Uganda, and Jimmy Hester, co-founder of LifeWay Christian Resources' True Love Waits sexual abstinence ministry. True Love Waits brought people together to address the Ugandan AIDS problem and spread the message of biblical purity. In the 12 years that followed, Uganda's HIV/AIDS infection rate dropped from 30 percent to about 6 percent. Other African countries send representatives to Uganda to learn how that country has reversed its deadly AIDS trend.

"We can change the story," Mwenge said. "True Love Waits helps young people put sex in context. As they think through that process, they realize that God's standards are best."
