Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario-Media Advisory: Top Business Students Win COIN

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - May 30, 2006) -

Attention: Assignment/Business Editors

Provincial winners gather in Toronto June 1

Twenty top business students and their teachers from across the province are being recognized at a June 1 luncheon in Toronto for outstanding achievement in COIN: The CA Challenge. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario holds this annual competition to give high school students considering a career as a Chartered Accountant the opportunity to compete, have fun and earn some cash prizes.

It's fun, but that's not to say winning is easy. Would you know:

- How to assess inventory market value according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)?

- The principles of revenue recognition?

- How to assess depreciation?

This year students from 140 high schools in 18 districts participated in this highly competitive contest. The first place prize provincially is $1,500, with second place getting $1,000 and third collecting $500. There are also separate $100 prizes and certificates of achievement for the top students from each of competing CA District Associations in Ontario, and for the top 20 scores overall. They'll receive their awards at a luncheon in Toronto at the Institute.

To be eligible for COIN, a student must have become a member of the Institute's Associate Student Program. In the competition, they took a 75-question test on accounting at the premises of a participating CA firm. All of the participants received a certificate of participation and a chance to find out more about the exciting opportunities offered by a career in Chartered Accounting.

The media is invited to attend the awards presentation in Toronto.
