Insurance Educational Association Releases "Labor Code and Current Case Law"

Next Online Workers' Compensation Course Offers Comprehensive Overview of California's Labor Code

SANTA ANA, CA--(Marketwire - April 28, 2010) -  The Insurance Educational Association (IEA), a leading provider of insurance related courses, today announced the release of "Labor Code and Current Case Law," the eighth online self-study workers' compensation course released in the past 14 months. Each course has been authored by a leading figure in the workers' compensation claims community.

"Labor Code and Current Case Law" was developed in response to the changing contours of California's labor law and workers' compensation system, often considered a model for other states. The course builds on the online learning foundation IEA has constructed over 10 years, and on the deep experience IEA has in preparing workers' compensation professionals to master the intricacies of this challenging insurance line.

"Labor Code and Current Case Law" is a detailed and thorough treatment of the California Labor Code and over 100 significant legal decisions necessary for the advanced claims administrator in both litigated and non-litigated claims. The course includes a thorough review and discussion of all sections of the labor code applicable to workers' compensation laws in the State of California. This course prepares insurance professionals for the State of California Self-Insurance Workers' Compensation Administrator's examination.

The author of the course, Dennis Knotts, WCCP, is a leading expert in the field of California workers' compensation claims. With more than 20 years of industry experience, Mr. Knotts has worked in a variety of organizations, including multi-line/multi-state carriers, third-party administrators (TPAs) and government agencies. Mr. Knotts is a published author in trade journals and expert witness in worker's compensation cases. He authored an Administrative Regulation that has been the focus of several en banc decisions, generally considered to involve unusually complex cases or cases of unusual significance. In 2008, Mr. Knotts received the Richard B. Masters Award for outstanding contribution to the Insurance Community.

"Labor Code and Current Case Law" is rated at 30 hours credit for California claims examiner continuing education or initial training needs. It is one of 8 online courses which will enable claims adjusters to quickly achieve a 5-course certificate in Workers' Compensation Claims Administration and to go on to complete the full 8-course Workers' Compensation Claims Professional designation.
