Ipswitch, Inc. Announces IMail Server Will Power E-mail Communications for Drive Around the World's ZERO SOUTH Project

South Pole Expedition Will Use IMail Server to Communicate With Students Around the World

LEXINGTON, MA--(Marketwire - November 28, 2007) - Ipswitch, Inc., a leading developer of network monitoring, messaging and secure managed file transfer solutions, today announced that Drive Around the World, a team of San Francisco Bay Area professionals who use long-range driving expeditions to promote cross-border understanding and goodwill through innovative educational programs, will use IMail Server during a 10-day, 1,024-mile South Pole expedition that will test low-emission vehicles in harsh climates. IMail Server will be used to interact with curious kids from around the world.

The ZERO SOUTH project will feature a 12-member team, including Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin and Apple Computer co-founder Steve Wozniak. The project is a partnership of some of the world's top scientists, environmental leaders and institutions with goals that include educating kids about alternative energy sources and demonstrating the viability of energy alternatives.

"A lot of organizations are looking for an e-mail solution that is easy to use and deploy like IMail Server, which offers the convenience of being able to work from any work station rather than having to go to a server for performing simple tasks, such as adding users," said Roger Greene, CEO of Ipswitch, Inc. "We are pleased to be contributing to an organization and a mission that will bring attention to the global energy crisis that is threatening our planet. Organizations throughout the world -- with a total of more than 60 million users -- depend on Ipswitch for their e-mail every day, whether they are operating on Main Street or at the South Pole."

Drive Around the World has been using IMail Server since 1997. The organization used the software to power e-mail communications during the LONGITUDE Expedition, a 44,000-mile journey that crossed four continents and 30 countries to benefit Parkinson's Disease from November 2003 to March 2005. One installation has provided continuous service since 2002. The ease of use and reliability of IMail Server were prime reasons behind Drive Around the World's decision to select the software for its ZERO SOUTH project in 2008.

"In order to convey the importance of reducing our dependence on fossil fuels, it is imperative that kids of all ages understand the latest zero and low-emission technologies," said Nick Baggarly, executive director and expedition leader for Drive Around the World. "We use expeditions to communicate with kids and our education programs have a long history with IMail Server. The technology links we establish are vital to the success of our mission and we've found IMail to be a dependable and reliable e-mail solution."

Established in 2002 with headquarters in Santa Monica, Calf., Drive Around the World's mission is to inspire a sense of adventure and the tradition of exploration by encouraging people to actively learn about the world and understand the problems we face. The organization will use bio diesel, ethanol/hybrid, battery electric, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles for the ZERO SOUTH project. At the conclusion of the expedition, four vehicles will be retrofitted with windows made of LCD panel so kids can sit in an alternative-fuel vehicle that actually accomplished something extraordinary. The ZERO SOUTH EXPERIENCE will tour science fairs, museums and schools for two years. To learn more about Drive Around the World, visit
