Ireland's Allergy Standards Limited Announces New Initiatives for the Asthma and Allergy-Friendly Certification Program

Program expands the range of products that are certified; announced in conjunction with the Enterprise Ireland Trade Mission to Canada led by the Deputy Prime Minister Mary Coughlan T.D.

DUBLIN, IRELAND and TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 21, 2009) - Allergy Standards Ltd. (ASL), an Ireland-based, physician-led global certification company, is developing relationships with a number of manufacturers and retailers to continue to expand the asthma and allergy friendly(TM) Certification Program in Canada. ASL prepares independent standards for testing a wide range of products from worldwide manufacturers to determine their suitability for asthmatics and individuals with associated allergies.

The news that further products and sectors were being certified was announced in Toronto during the Enterprise Ireland trade mission to Canada led by Ireland's Deputy Prime Minister which is taking place this week.

From its state-of-the-art lab in the Trinity Enterprise Campus, a technology facility linked to Dublin's Trinity College, the ASL facility specializes in immunoassay testing (ELISA) to perform a range of services for manufacturers worldwide. Those services include: product certification, product consulting, indoor environmental certification and consulting, and the detection of bio-allergen and relevant irritant chemicals found in indoor environments.

"We are delighted that manufacturers continue to see the value in our independent third-party validation of their claims," said ASL's Chief Executive Officer, Dr. John McKeon. "The fact that retailers are also actively engaging with the Certification Mark demonstrates that the asthma & allergy friendly(TM) story is definitely resonating with the public".

ASL pioneered the asthma and allergy friendly(TM) Certification Program in partnership with the Asthma Society of Canada and partnered shortly after with the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. Companies certified by ASL bear the organization's Certification Mark, first registered in the Canadian patents office, proving that their products have undergone rigorous testing to determine their relative suitability for people with asthma and/or allergies.

Existing clients include Amway Global, Dyson, Hollander Home Fashions, LG Electronics and SmartSilk. Certified products can be found in Canadian retailers including Sears, Bed Bath & Beyond and Wal-Mart.
