JacobsRimell Launches Its Next Generation OSS Solution Aligned for Telecom Operator Service Delivery Platforms

JR Works With Tier 1 Operators and Standards Bodies to Develop and Deploy Major Platform Enhancements Aiding Interoperability, Usability, and Simplicity

DALLAS, TX -- (MARKET WIRE) -- December 5, 2006 -- TeleManagement World Forum Booth #238 -- JacobsRimell (JR), the leading provider of subscriber-centric IP service fulfillment solutions, today unveiled its next generation OSS platform -- APSDP (APS Delivery Platform) at TeleManagement World Forum Dallas 2006. APSDP includes new functionality based on the evolution of key industry standards and the trend towards the deployment of service delivery platforms (SDP) designed to address operators' deployment and integration challenges. APSDP capitalizes on the phenomenal success JR has had with its data driven fulfillment platform that today delivers services for 15 million Voice, Video and Broadband Internet subscribers.

Delivered as part of an SOA (Service Oriented Architecture), APSDP provides the foundation information architecture and information access solution essential for the orchestration of emerging blended or unique products that depend on multiple underlying services.

Marek Stawinski, Vice President IT Architecture & Solution Design, UPC Broadband, the European distribution division of leading international cable operator Liberty Global, Inc., said, "With this implementation of OSS/J as part of our next generation service delivery architecture we are now able to more rapidly and efficiently automate and integrate our service fulfillment platforms. OSS/J is a key enabler for us as we continue the standardization of our operational platforms across the UPC properties."

"Communications service providers are focused on introducing new services in a convergent broadband network. They are looking for systems such as JacobsRimell's APSDP, that support many services, integrate easily with their other systems, and will support them as they develop new services in the future," said Larry Goldman, co-founder of OSS Observer.

JR's APSDP will facilitate successful implementation of SDP strategies through industry leading interoperability, usability and simplicity. This release includes three key enhanced functionalities in support of these goals:

-- Interoperability: (1) OSS/J (the OSS through Java initiative) formally
endorsed by the TeleManagement Forum in May 2004 is the first technology
specific implementation of NGOSS. OSS/J's goals are to define and implement
an open standard based set of APIs to interface into and across OSS
systems. JR's implementation of OSS/J's Inventory and Order Management APIs
allow operational systems and processes fast and standardized access to
JR's SID compliant information repository for Product, Service and Resource
queries. This is important as product and service orchestration is much
more effective when it is able to use a commonly accessible information
-- Usability: Portlet based data presentation (JSR168 based) allows
operators to more rapidly integrate and deploy a range of intuitive self
selection, self care and repair functions for all products and services.
Portlets facilitate a componentized approach to surfacing product and
service functions, presenting a consistent look and feel to users, and
minimizing the effort needed to effect changes.
-- Simplicity: BPEL now emerged as the standard for assembling discrete
services into end-to-end processes, reduces the cost and complexity of
process integration and standardization for operators. JR's BPEL based
workflow provides operators with a unifying orchestration mechanism and
toolkit -- one workflow paradigm across all systems facilitating service
collaboration to enable a wider range of blended or bundled services. A
significant advantage BPEL also delivers is that as a high level language
it can be viewed and edited using an intuitive visual design tool allowing
operations rather than IT to modify business flows.
"The past few months has seen a shift in the way operators are viewing their operations investment planning. The market conditions today are driving a focus on operationalization, simplification and improved service levels," said David Jacobs, CTO and Co-Founder JacobsRimell. "We understand these drivers all too well and have developed APSDP to further support operators in their quest to create a truly heterogeneous operations and product creation environment to bring customers the reality of converged on demand services."

As telecom operators think through their next generation service creation and delivery architectures including those that are planning an IMS based network, access to information is now the key enabler. Realizing the dream of a rapid product and service creation and adoption environment can only be achieved by building and implementing an interoperable, usable and simple operational environment.
