Jeff Spigel Named Head of Antitrust Practice at King & Spalding

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - May 3, 2010) -  King & Spalding has appointed partner Jeffrey S. Spigel as head of its antitrust practice, succeeding Kevin R. Sullivan, who held that position since 1995. Sullivan is stepping down to focus his efforts on managing the firm's litigation practice in the Washington, D.C., office. He will continue to lead the firm's global cartel defense practice.

Spigel, who is resident in the Washington, D.C., office, has served as co-leader of King & Spalding's antitrust initiative and leads the firm's transactional antitrust practice.

"Kevin's leadership helped build King & Spalding into one of the leading U.S. antitrust practices. He has done a tremendous job," Spigel said. "I look forward to working with Kevin and the entire antitrust team to continue the national -- and international -- growth of our practice."

Spigel, a 15-year veteran of King & Spalding, helps clients respond to government antitrust investigations in the United States and abroad, obtain Hart-Scott-Rodino clearance and coordinate approvals in foreign jurisdictions of their proposed transactions, pursue or defend against antitrust claims and counsels clients on strategic antitrust. Spigel also has significant antitrust experience in various segments of the healthcare industry and on unfair and deceptive trade practice issues, particularly in the financial services industry. He appears regularly before the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission, and he coordinates with foreign counsel in dealing with regulatory bodies in jurisdictions around the globe.

King & Spalding's antitrust practice, described by Chambers USA as "strong regionally and nationally" with "long-standing experience and a leading reputation," prides itself on developing individualized, solution-oriented advice on all aspects of antitrust law, including complex civil litigation and criminal proceedings, government investigations, merger analysis and agency approval, and business counseling. King & Spalding's antitrust lawyers have served in senior positions in U.S. antitrust enforcement agencies and include the former Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Criminal Enforcement at the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice (DOJ). The firm regularly represents clients in complicated antitrust matters before the DOJ, the Federal Trade Commission, the European Commission, state attorneys general and other key competition authorities around the world, drawing on extensive enforcement authority experience and private practice expertise to guide clients safely and successfully through all phases of civil and criminal enforcement actions and merger investigations.
