Jensen Precast Now Manufacturing Reinforced Concrete Pipe in Sparks, Nevada Facility

SPARKS, NV--(Marketwire - November 23, 2008) - Jensen Precast recently installed machinery to manufacture Reinforced Concrete Pipe (RCP) in their Sparks, Nevada facility. The decision to make RCP came in early 2007, after many customers repeatedly asked them to supply it.

"RCP is generally used for storm drain applications greater than 15 inches," Lance Semenko, Senior Vice President of Engineering for Q & D Construction, said. "We specify RCP because it's stronger for larger applications, and is priced more economically for larger requirements."

RCP is used in municipal sewage and wastewater applications. The decision to use it in a job depends on the engineer, contractor, and budget. Plastic pipe products have become popular the past twenty years, but with the rise in petroleum costs and various documented problems, construction contractors and engineers are using RCP more often.

Plastic pipe products are attractive when working with tight budgets, however what lacks in price, the customer pays for over time. Plastic pipe products have been known to melt in agricultural applications where fields are burned, and float out of place when flooding occurs. Since RCP is concrete, it isn't moved very easily and can withstand many types of stress.

"We're getting an amazing life cycle out of our concrete pipe," Jones said. "A lot of our pipe has survived past the 50 year design life. Because of its structure, we can use it closer to the surface if needed."

Jensen Precast maintains a large inventory of RCP as well as other standard precast concrete products such as manholes, precast septic tanks, drainage inlets, box culvert, and underground utility products at their Sparks facility. Delivery is routinely accomplished by one of Jensen's fleet of trucks.

"When deciding what production methods and machines to choose for entering this market, pipe quality was our chief concern, followed by output," Kurt Jensen, Chief Operating Officer, said. "We purchased state of the art pipe equipment to provide our customers with consistent quality."

Jensen Precast was founded in 1968 in Reno, Nevada as a manufacturer of standard and custom precast concrete products. We design and build products to meet large-scale infrastructure demands for highway construction, retaining walls, electric and gas utility, telecommunications, water, on-site wastewater, and sewage applications.
