Jo-Ann Rewards Creativity

HUDSON, OH--(Marketwire - August 18, 2010) -  Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores (NYSE: JAS) is pleased to announce the winners of its 2010 Jo-Ann Decades Sweepstakes. Irene Fernandez from Miami, Florida has been selected as the craft winner and Janet Stultz from Woodstock, Virgina has been selected as the sewing winner. Fernandez and Stultz each won prize packages worth more than $1,800.

Sewers and crafters were invited to enter the contest by sharing their favorite crafting or sewing memory. More than 2,400 entries were received and the winners were chosen at random. "One of my best memories has to be when my mother showed me how to knit," said Fernandez, "I wanted to impress my boyfriend, now husband of 25 years, by making him a sweater. Not knowing, I threw the sweater in the hot wash cycle. My husband was never able to wear the sweater, but six years later, my son did. He was one year old."

Schultz will always treasure the memory of her mother teaching her how to sew as a young child. "As I grew older she taught me to sew my own dresses from which I won a 4-H county dress revue with a corduroy dress and jacket. Using this knowledge I made my daughter's clothes and now continue to sew by making quilts for my family, for cancer patients and for babies at the county pregnancy center," wrote Schultz.

In 2010, Jo-Ann will feature monthly sewing and/or crafting ideas inspired by a particular decade -- ranging from the 1940s, when Jo-Ann was founded, through today. To view featured projects visit http://www.joann.com\decades.
