John Muir Health Employees Contribute $1.8 Million for Hospital Renovations

Support for Capital Campaign Demonstrates Employees' Commitment to Area Patients

WALNUT CREEK, CA--(Marketwire - December 1, 2009) - John Muir Health Foundation, the charitable fundraising organization for all John Muir Health programs and services, announced today that employees of John Muir Health have contributed more than $1.8 million to the Capital Campaign supporting hospital renovation and expansion projects in Walnut Creek and Concord.

"Despite the tough economic environment over the last two years, John Muir Health employees have demonstrated sincere commitment to their organization and the health and well-being of the community," said Milt Smith, president of John Muir Health Foundation. "The Capital Campaign has raised more than $40 million to date and the growing excitement about the new hospital facilities continues to motivate donors."

Launched in 2007, the Capital Campaign's goal is to raise $60 million for both the Concord and Walnut Creek campuses. Contributions will help fund the state-of-the-art expansion and renovations to bring world-class patient care facilities, equipment, and technology and enhance patient care in the area.

"Our employees are passionate about their community and know it is essential to support the growth of our health system as an independent local health care organization," said Michelle Lopes, RN, MSN co-chair of the Employee Capital Campaign. "As employees of John Muir Health, we view philanthropy as a vital source of additional funds for our non-profit, community-based hospital. With continual internal and community support, John Muir Health is well positioned to maintain financial strength and continue our long-standing tradition of high-quality, compassionate care."

To thank employees for their generous contributions, John Muir Health Foundation will hold celebratory events on December 4 in Walnut Creek and December 11 in Concord. "We want to thank our staff for their dedication to John Muir Health patients that goes beyond their daily job duties," said Smith. "We hope the local community will join us to salute John Muir Health nurses, staff and employees for raising almost $2 million for our award-winning health care."

John Muir Health's locally managed healthcare services recently made national headlines -- its Walnut Creek Campus was ranked in the top 50 of U.S. News and World Report's "America's Best Hospitals" 2009 survey for digestive disorders and orthopedics. John Muir Medical Center-Concord Campus was recognized as the top-rated cardiac surgery program in Northern California in 2009 by HealthGrades, an independent healthcare quality company, and for the second consecutive year.
