MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - June 1, 2006) -

"When you sift through the rich musical tapestries woven by Montreal's NEeMA, you immediately realize that she is drawing influences from a variety of places, and making them all part of her focused and original sound."

See show dates below

Montreal, June 1st 2006 - NEeMA will be performing her spoken word song show with video dance and all the other things she can think of but that don't usually go in her normal singer songwriter show. A journey through the mind, fear and discovery. The audience is asked to bring something they'd like to let go...

NEeMA will be accompanied musically by her main collaborator Francois Turgeon and on visuals by Po'Start. After three years of recording and searching for her sound NEeMA has also finished her debut album which will be ready for the start of the Fringe Festival. The album will take you on a musical journey from the streets of Egypt to the tribal singing of Canada's Great North. On December 1st, 2005 NEeMA released her first video, Masi (meaning thank you in Tlicho) as a message of hope and peace. She is featured in the documentary film by Dave Cool entitled "What is Indie?" which was launched at Folk Alliance 2006. Her music has also been featured in several documentaries, namely "Tlicho Self Government: As Long As This Land" produced by Rabesca's Resources Ltd and "Crossing the Deh Cho" produced by the Deh Cho Bridge Corporation. Her music is also featured on several compilations including "Welcome to Yellowknife, Vol I" produced by Ice Vibe Recordz and "What is Indie?".

NEeMA was born in Montreal of Egyptian and Lebanese descent. She is an intriguing and dynamic spoken singer songwriter and multidisciplinary artist. Her presence on and off the stage is charming and charismatic, and her voice is very honest and unique. She has spent most of her life trying to understand her place in this world. She has met the Dalai Lama and Mother Theresa; managed an isolated Aboriginal community in the North of Canada; and worked with street children in Egypt. She is a traveler of the world and has an undeniable talent to communicate her journey through her very truthful yet uplifting songs. Her writings have a strong social message of understanding and hope for peace. NEeMA sings in English, French, Dogrib and Arabic, and her musical style combines folk, spoken world, jazz and pop. She has toured the Maritimes, parts of Quebec and the Northwest Territories performing her music and spoken word in the last couple of years. She also performed a flash solo dance piece entitled Life is a Rush into the Unknown for the Edgy Women's Festival at Studio 303 earlier this year.
