Justice Canada: British Columbia Judicial Appointment Announced

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 28, 2008) - The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Elaine J. Adair, a partner with Clark Wilson LLP in Vancouver, is appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia. Madam Justice Adair is replacing Mr. Justice H.M. Groberman (Vancouver), who was appointed to the Court of Appeal.

Madam Justice Adair received a Master of Arts in Musicology from the University of Western Ontario in 1978 and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Toronto in 1981. She was admitted to the Bar of British Columbia in 1982. Madam Justice Adair was an associate with Shrum, Liddle & Hebenton, Vancouver predecessor to McCarthy Tétrault LLP, from 1982 to 1988, and a partner with McCarthy Tétrault LLP beginning in 1988. She became a partner with Clark Wilson in 2008. Madam Justice Adair has developed an expertise primarily in complex civil litigation, in particular class action defence, corporate-commercial disputes, products liability and other torts, insurance coverage disputes and professional negligence. In addition, she is a member of several professional associations, including the Canadian Bar Association of British Columbia and the Vancouver Bar Association.

This appointment is effective immediately.
