KOCH Records to Release New Album by Vinicius Cantuária

"Cymbals" to Be Released in the U.S. on February 19th, 2008

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - January 16, 2008) - KOCH Records announces the release of "Cymbals," the new album by critically acclaimed Brazilian artist Vinicius Cantuária.

Recorded in 2007 in New York City, and produced by Cantuária, "Cymbals" is a stunning collection of Brazilian bossa nova and jazz songs with a decidedly 21st century feel. Cantuária has enlisted the talents of musicians Marc Ribot, Brad Mehldau, KOCH Records artist Jenny Scheinman, Erik Friedlander and others for "Cymbals," his 14th studio album.

Uncut writes, "...these 11 dark bossa novas... are treated with care, with the occasionally spiky, experimental intrusions never threatening to overwhelm the proceeding. Four stars."

Born and raised in Brazil, Cantuária performed alongside Brazilian superstars Marcos Valle, Gilberto Gil, Chico Buarque and Caetano Veloso, for whom he wrote his first million-selling hit, "Lua e Estrela," before moving to New York City in 1994.

He has performed as both a guitarist and percussionist with artists like Brian Eno, Arto Lindsay, Laurie Anderson, David Byrne, John Zorn, Marc Ribot, Ryuichi Sakamoto and many others. Cantuária has also written for many artists, including Angelique Kidjo and Bill Frisell, with whom he also recorded the Grammy-nominated "The Intercontinentals." Film credits include "Next Stop Wonderland," recorded with Bebel Gilberto, and "Melissa P" recorded with Arto Lindsay.

Look for Cantuária to play select dates in 2008.
