Kaspersky Lab Finishes 2009 With a Bang -- Industry Testing Highlights Real-World Effectiveness of Company's Security Technology

Exceptional Test Results and Independent Evaluations Set New Benchmarks for Security Market

WOBURN, MA--(Marketwire - January 20, 2010) - Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of Internet threat management solutions, capped a year of strong growth in both the consumer and business-to-business security segments with high honors from several leading security test organizations. These tests evaluated several product metrics, ranging from speed and performance, proactive protection, 'zero-day' protection effectiveness, Windows 7 compatibility, and more. The consistently-high results achieved from such a wide variety of independent test organizations is further evidence of Kaspersky Lab's leadership in developing innovative and effective endpoint security solutions.

Real-World Security Leadership in AV-Comparatives Testing

AV-Comparatives, one of the world's most respected independent anti-malware test organizations, issued several reports at the end of November and throughout December 2009. These evaluations tested the core capabilities of Kaspersky Lab's anti-malware engine, which is the foundation of all Kaspersky Lab consumer, SMB, and enterprise-level products. In each test, Kaspersky Lab earned the Advanced+ designation, the highest rating awarded by AV-Comparatives. These individual tests included:

-- Whole Product Dynamic Test -- In the first ever public dynamic test
conducted by AV-Comparatives, 15 of the most popular Internet Security
suites were evaluated against real-world, real-time cyber threats.
Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 won first place in the test, demonstrating
the highest level of malware detection -- 99 percent -- while producing an
insignificant number of false-positive detections. This latest award for
detection rates, alongside the "Advanced+ for Malware Removal" awarded to
Kaspersky Lab in October 2009, is compelling evidence of the Company's
    expertise in anti-virus technology.
-- Proactive/Retrospective Protection Test -- This evaluation tested the
core on-demand scanning and malware detection of Kaspersky Lab's anti-virus
technology. Kaspersky Lab scored high in its ability to detect new
malware, identifying more malware samples than products from Symantec,
McAfee, Sophos, ESET, F-Secure, BitDefender, Microsoft, and others.
Additionally, Kaspersky Lab again produced few false-positive detections,
which can cause confusion for end-users and waste the time of IT
-- Performance Test -- The impact of anti-virus solutions on system
performance was evaluated in this test, determining if common user-tasks
were slowed by security software. Kaspersky Lab scored higher in testing
than anti-virus solutions from McAfee, Symantec, Microsoft, AVG, ESET, G
    DATA, BitDefender and Avast.

By averaging Q4 test results with similar comparative anti-virus product evaluations conducted throughout 2009, AV-Comparatives issued its Best Product of 2009 rankings in its annual summary report. Kaspersky Lab earned the Silver award for 2009 based largely on the strength of its real-world malware detection and overall performance. AV-Comparatives typically awards only a single "best product" designation, but was compelled to offer a Silver ranking due to the extremely close final results.

Positive Feedback From Around the World

The praise for Kaspersky Lab's technology wasn't limited to a single test organization, as strong test results continued to roll-in for Kaspersky Lab throughout December.

The authoritative British magazine Virus Bulletin awarded Kaspersky Lab two VB100 awards in December, one for the Company's consumer product, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010, and another for its Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations Release 2 product. Forty-three anti-virus products participated in this evaluation, and Kaspersky Lab's products successfully detected 100 percent malicious programs while minimizing the number of false-positives. Virus Bulletin praised Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations Release 2 for its "wealth of configuration options" and a user experience that is "extremely smooth and trouble free."

Anti-Malware Test Lab, a highly reputable Web site dedicated to cyber-security research and testing, conducted its first ever zero-day test roundup in 2009. This test simulated a user visiting infected websites to determine the anti-virus effectiveness when encountering the very latest malware programs. Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 was recognized as the best Internet Security-class product in the test, beating 17 other products, and was the only product to receive a Gold rating in each test category.

Independent test organization Cascadia Labs compared security solutions on their ability to meet the requirements of business that ranged from small organizations to medium-sized enterprises. Tested alongside corporate endpoint product suites from Symantec, McAfee, Trend Micro, Sophos and Eset, Kaspersky Business Space Security 6.0 Release 2 earned the best overall score, and achieved the highest score in four of the five evaluation categories.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstation Release 2 was evaluated by West Coast Labs, an independent cyber security testing and research center, and earned the Checkmark Platinum Product Award for its performance in ongoing real-world test conditions, one of only four companies to receive this award. Kaspersky Lab was also among the first to receive a West Coast Labs Checkmark certificate for Windows 7 compatibility, ensuring that Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations Release 2 is verified stable under Windows 7 and is guaranteed to provide protection to all corporate users.
