Ken Georgetti Comments on Death of Jack Poole: CLC President Says Poole was a "Great Visionary"

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 23, 2009) - The following is a statement from Ken Georgetti, president of the Canadian Labour Congress on the death of Jack Poole, chairman of the Vancouver Organizing Committee's board of directors for the 2010 Olympics. Georgetti is available for comments to the media regarding Mr. Poole.

I join today with all of those who mourn the death of Jack Poole. It may sound odd to have a labour leader eulogize a business person, but Jack had the kind of principles and integrity that earned my respect and confidence. He was a great visionary.

I have known Jack for 25 years and worked closely with him on several endeavours. I sat on the Olympic bid committee for eight years under Jack's inspired chairmanship. We also cooperated to create VLC Properties, which is now Concert Properties, a unionized company showcasing the craftsmanship of labour. Jack and I worked together to bring the Molson Indy to Vancouver.

Jack gave a lot back to his community. He respected people regardless of their status. He was a great judge of character who could recognize talent and he knew how to draw out the best in people.

The Canadian Labour Congress, the national voice of the labour movement, represents 3.2 million Canadian workers. The CLC brings together Canada's national and international unions along with the provincial and territorial federations of labour and 130 district labour councils. Website:
