King & Spalding Continues Expansion of Global Energy Transactions Team With Addition of Partner Crayton Bell in New York

New York Move Follows Influx of Five London-Based Energy Lawyers in Mid-June

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - August 17, 2010) -  Continuing the expansion of its global energy transaction practice, King & Spalding today announced the addition of partner Crayton L. Bell, a prominent mergers, acquisitions and private equity lawyer specializing in the energy sector, to its New York office. Bell's arrival occurs two months after King & Spalding announced that a team of five energy transaction lawyers was joining its London office.

"The energy industry is an area of key strategic focus for the firm, and we are committed to continually enhancing our transactional, litigation and regulatory strengths in the energy field to provide our clients with the deep global insight and legal skill they demand," said Neil L. Levy, co-chair of King & Spalding's global energy practice.

"Crayton is a significant addition to our New York office and corporate team, and we are pleased to welcome him to King & Spalding," said Raymond E. Baltz, head of King & Spalding's corporate practice.

Bell joins King & Spalding's Corporate practice in New York from Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy. He has extensive experience advising clients on a wide range of corporate transactions that include mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyouts and other private equity transactions, corporate reorganizations, joint ventures, strategic alliances and outsourcing. He has handled M&A and private equity transactions in the United States, Latin America, Europe and the Middle East for private and public companies.

Bell received a J.D. degree from Fordham University School of Law, an M.A. degree from Vanderbilt University and a B.A. degree from The University of the South.

Earlier this month King & Spalding said it plans to open an office in Singapore focused on energy transactions and international arbitration. In mid-June the firm announced the addition of a five-lawyer energy transactions team to its London office, including partners Garry Pegg and Hywel Jones, who both have expertise in power development. Since late 2008, the firm also has added energy regulatory partners Neil L. Levy, Bruce L. Richardson and David G. Tewksbury to its Washington, D.C., office, energy construction partner James Bremen in London and energy lawyers Timothy M. Burbury and Leroy Levy in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, respectively.

Bell said, "I am excited to join King & Spalding and its team of talented energy and corporate lawyers. The firm's culture of teamwork and collegiality are especially appealing to me, and I look forward to helping the firm perform high-level work for energy companies and the financial institutions that invest in them."

Consistently ranked among the top energy practices in the world, King & Spalding advises clients on a broad spectrum of transactions, including project development and finance, construction and procurement, joint ventures, investments, mergers and acquisitions, privatizations and capitalizations, and marketing and trading across the oil and gas, power, natural resources and marine transportation industries. The more than 150 lawyers who comprise the group are resident in the majority of the firm's offices and virtually all of its practice groups, giving King & Spalding one of the broadest and deepest benches of energy lawyers in the world.
