Kirkland Lake Gold Inc.: Lower D North Zone Extended to 271 Feet Below 5300 Level; Drill Hole 53-803 Returns 5.62 opt Over 8.6 Feet True Width on New Barchetta Zone

KIRKLAND LAKE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 31, 2007) - Kirkland Lake Gold Inc. (the "Company") (TSX:KGI)(AIM:KGI) is pleased to announce an update on exploration drilling in the South Mine Complex (SMC). The SMC consists of 15 or more mineralized zones, one of which is the Lower D North (LDN) Zone. Exploration drilling continues to extend previously defined mineralization and intersect new zones.

Stewart Carmichael, Chief Exploration Geologist, commented:

"The development and subsequent drilling from the 5300 level cross cut has allowed the Company to test the depth extension of the South Mine Complex with high productivity air drills for the first time. The addition of new zones, like Barchetta, continues to demonstrate the growth potential for the South Mine Complex beyond the 15 zones discovered to date."

Highlights of the current results:

- The LDN has been extended to depth with drill hole 53-574 assaying 5.17 ounces per ton (opt) over a core length of 2.0 feet (0.7 feet true width) at the -5536 elevation or 271 feet (460 feet down the dip) below the -5300 cross cut. Drill hole 53-811 has intersected the LDN at the -5472 elevation and assayed 4.10 opt over a core length of 1.5 feet (1.2 feet true width). See figure 2.

- Drill hole 53-779 intersected the LDN at the -5440 elevation and assayed 0.45 opt over a core length of 18.1 feet (14.7 feet true width). Drill hole 53-762 intersected the LDN at the -5400 elevation and assayed 1.93 opt over a core length of 9.8 feet (8.3 feet true width). Both of these drill holes are located on section 4+60 west and represent the furthest east ore-grade intersections on the LDN. The LDN has now been defined over a strike length of 1,330 feet and remains open to the east and to depth.

- A newly designated zone, called Barchetta, has been intersected while testing the LDN and assayed 5.62 opt uncut (1.75 opt cut) over a core length of 25.3 feet (8.6 feet true width) in drill hole 53-803. The zone, which transects both tuff and porphyry, is characterised by carbonate altered tuff mineralized with up to 10% pyrite and quartz-flooded porphyry. The mineralization is structurally controlled and has been defined over a strike length of 300 feet and a dip component of 100 feet between the -5226 and -5310 elevations. The zone remains open to depth, dipping at 30 degrees and is located 130 feet south of the LDN (see figure 3). This intersection exhibits alignment and continuity with previously released drill holes 50-740 (1.11 opt over a core length of 4.7 feet, see press release dated September 6, 2006) and 50-741 (11.65 opt uncut or 3.24 opt cut over a core length of 9.0 feet, see press release dated October 24, 2006). See figure 3.

- Multiple zones continue to be intersected in many of the exploration holes. Drill hole 53-740 assayed 5.22 opt uncut (2.21 opt cut) over a core length of 5.3 feet (3.8 feet true width) and drill hole 53-811 assayed 2.07 opt (1.17 opt cut) over core length of 8.0 feet (5.1 feet true width). These two holes are 32 feet apart from each other and at the -5360 elevation or 93 feet below the -5300 level. They are located 150 feet east of drill holes 53-803 and 50-741 and may represent the eastern continuation of the Barchetta zone. Additional drilling is required to confirm continuity.

A full listing of the latest 40 drill holes in addition to previously released results may be viewed at the Company's website.

The Company also announces, further to its announcement on September 28, 2007, that its Management's Discussion & Analysis and audited financial statements for the year ended April 30, 2007 (Accounts) were, in addition to the Notice of Meeting and Proxy Circular, sent to shareholders on September 26, 2007 in connection with the Company's Annual Meeting of Shareholders. A copy of these materials may be found on SEDAR at www.sedar.com.

About the Company

The Company purchased the Macassa Mine and the 1,500 ton per day mill along with four former producing gold properties - Kirkland Lake, Teck-Hughes, Lake Shore and Wright Hargreaves - in December 2001. These properties, which have historically produced some 22 million ounces of gold, extend over seven kilometres between the Macassa Mine on the west and Wright Hargreaves on the east and, for the first time, are being developed and explored under one owner. This camp is located in the Abitibi Southern Greenstone Belt of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada.

Qualified Person

The results of the Company's underground diamond drilling program have been reviewed, verified (including sampling, analytical and test data) and compiled by the Company's geological staff (which includes a 'qualified person', Stewart Carmichael, P.Geo., the Company's Chief Exploration Geologist, for the purpose of National Instrument 43-101, Standards of Disclosure for Mineral Projects, of the Canadian Securities Administrators). Mr. Carmichael also supervised the preparation of the information that forms the basis of the technical disclosure in this release.

Quality Assurance & Control

The Company has implemented a quality assurance and control (QA/QC) program to ensure sampling and analysis of all exploration work is conducted in accordance with the best possible practices. The drill core is sawn in half with half of the core samples shipped to the Swastika Laboratories in Swastika, Ontario or to the Macassa mine laboratory for analysis. The other half of the core is retained for future assay verification. Other QA/QC includes the insertion of blanks, and the regular re-assaying of pulps/rejects at alternate certified labs (Polymet, Accurassay). Gold analysis is conducted by fire assay using atomic absorption or gravimetric finish. The laboratory re-assays at least 10% of all samples and additional checks may be run on anomalous values.

Reports

The Company's Macassa Mine Property is the subject of reserve reports prepared by:

- Glenn R. Clark, P. Eng., entitled Review of Resources and Reserves of Macassa Mine, Kirkland Lake, Ontario dated July 18, 2006.

- Stewart Carmichael, P.Geo., the Company's Chief Exploration Geologist, entitled Interim Report On Reserves and Resources On South Mineralization, Macassa Mine, For Kirkland Lake Gold Inc. dated January 24, 2007.

- Glenn R. Clark, P.Eng., entitled Review of Resources and Reserves of the New South Mine Complex, Macassa Mine, Kirkland Lake, Ontario dated August 25, 2007.

All of these technical reports have been filed on SEDAR (www.sedar.com).
