Kirkland Lake Gold Inc.: New South Zone Returns 2.09 Ounces of Gold Over 30 Feet and 1.82 Ounces of Gold Over 25 Feet; Zone Expanding Along Strike and Down Dip

KIRKLAND LAKE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 11, 2007) - Kirkland Lake Gold Inc. (the "Company") (TSX:KGI)(AIM:KGI) is pleased to announce an update on exploration drilling in the South Mine Complex (SMC). The SMC consists of 15 or more mineralized zones, one of which is the New South Zone. Drilling on five exploration programs from the 5000 and 5300 levels dedicated to the SMC continues to extend previously defined mineralization and intersect new zones.

"This drilling on the New South Zone from the 5000 level has expanded the down dip component further to the east and we will shortly be in a position to test the down dip component of the New South Zone on the recently purchased South Claims as only one part of what will be a very exciting exploration program for 2008," said Stewart Carmichael, Chief Exploration Geologist. He added, "Drill bays to facilitate more powerful electric drills on the 5300 cross cut will in place by the end of this year and the first electric drill to test the SMC from the cross cut will follow shortly thereafter. As part of the 2008 program, we will be moving a large electric drill into the cross cut to drill the 4000 foot holes to the south that will test various theories concerning the source of the mineralization as well as testing the White Zone and other areas where we have not had previous access."

"I want to express our appreciation of the efforts of the exploration and development teams for 2007," commented Harry Dobson, Company Chairman. "The outstanding accomplishment for the year was actually mining areas discovered by the exploration team and confirming the high grade nature of the mineralization."

Highlights of the current results:

- Drill holes 53-866 and 53-864 have intersected the New South Zone and assayed 2.09 opt uncut (1.44 opt cut) over a core length of 30.0 feet (28.8 feet true width) and 1.82 opt uncut (1.49 opt cut) over a core length of 25.6 feet (24.8 feet true width), respectively. These latest drill holes are located 65 feet west and 55 feet west, respectively, of the New South Zone 'discovery hole', 50-627, which graded 2.30 opt over an estimated true width of 22.8 feet (see Press Release dated November 22, 2005).

- Drill hole 53-897 intersected the New South Zone and assayed 0.58 opt over a core length of 23.3 feet (10.6 feet true width). This represent a 117 foot westerly step out on the East block of the zone from previously released drill hole 50-627 (See Press Release dated November 25, 2005 and figure 1).

- Drill hole 53-650 has intersected the New South Zone on the far west limit of the West block and assayed 0.53 opt over a core length of 53.5 feet (6.9 feet true width).

- Drill holes 50-854 and 50-854W intersected the New South Zone and assayed 0.36 opt over a core length of 28.0 feet (9.1 feet true width) and 0.99 opt over a core length of 20.9 feet (5.6 feet true width), respectively. These intersections have increased the down dip component of the New South Zone on the East block by 290 feet from previously released drill hole 50-743C (see Press Release dated January 16, 2007).

- Drill hole 50-809 intersected the New South Zone and assayed 1.14 opt over a core length of 15.5 feet (4.6 feet true width). Drill holes 50-762W and 50-762W2 assayed 2.04 opt over a core length of 2.6 feet (1.1 feet true width) and 0.48 opt over a core length of 47.4 feet (12.5 feet true width), respectively. These three drill holes represent a westerly step out of 204 feet from previously released drill hole 50-762 (see Press Release dated April 18, 2007).

The diagram referred to in this release may be viewed at the Company's website, www.klgold.com and will provide context to the above statements.

About the Company

The Company purchased the Macassa Mine and the 1,500 ton per day mill along with four former producing gold properties - Kirkland Lake, Teck-Hughes, Lake Shore and Wright Hargreaves - in December 2001. These properties, which have historically produced some 22 million ounces of gold, extend over seven kilometres between the Macassa Mine on the west and Wright Hargreaves on the east and, for the first time, are being developed and explored under one owner. This camp is located in the Southern Abitibi Greenstone Belt of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada.

Qualified Person

The results of the Company's underground diamond drilling program have been reviewed, verified (including sampling, analytical and test data) and compiled by the Company's geological staff (which includes a 'qualified person', Stewart Carmichael P.Geo., the Company's Chief Exploration Geologist, for the purpose of National Instrument 43-101, Standards of Disclosure for Mineral Projects, of the Canadian Securities Administrators). Mr. Carmichael also supervised the preparation of the information that forms the basis of the technical disclosure in this release.

Quality Assurance & Control

The Company has implemented a quality assurance and control (QA/QC) program to ensure sampling and analysis of all exploration work is conducted in accordance with the best possible practices. The drill core is sawn in half with half of the core samples shipped to the Swastika Laboratories in Swastika, Ontario or to the Macassa mine laboratory for analysis. The other half of the core is retained for future assay verification. Other QA/QC includes the insertion of blanks, and the regular re-assaying of pulps/rejects at alternate certified labs (Polymet, Accurassay). Gold analysis is conducted by fire assay using atomic absorption or gravimetric finish. The laboratory re-assays at least 10% of all samples and additional checks may be run on anomalous values.

Reports

The Company's Macassa Mine Property is the subject of reserve reports prepared by:

- Glenn R. Clark, P.Eng., entitled Review of Resources and Reserves of Macassa Mine, Kirkland Lake, Ontario dated July 18, 2006.

- Stewart Carmichael, P.Geo., the Company's Chief Exploration Geologist, entitled Interim Report On Reserves and Resources On South Mineralization, Macassa Mine, For Kirkland Lake Gold Inc. dated January 24, 2007.

- Glenn R. Clark, P.Eng., entitled Review of Resources and Reserves of the New South Mine Complex, Macassa Mine, Kirkland Lake, Ontario dated August 25, 2007.

All of these technical reports have been filed on SEDAR (www.sedar.com).
