TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 6, 2010) - Students from across the province – including the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University – are competing for pride and prizes in the Battle for CA$H on January 9. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario holds this annual competition to give university students considering a career as a Chartered Accountant the opportunity to compete, have fun and earn some cash prizes.
Thirty-six three-person teams, made up of undergraduate business students selected by accounting/business societies from 19 university programs across the province, are traveling to the provincial CA Institute in Toronto for the competition.
The University of Waterloo will be represented by three teams:
- Vithushan Jeyakumaran, Talha Omer and Joanne Toporowski
- Michelle Lau, Andrew Leung and Jennifer Liu
- Michael Krzywicki, Jonathan Chan and Nasheen Kalkat
Wilfrid Laurier University will be represented by three teams:
- Sahil Sharma, Ziyad Syed and Sally Regenstreif
- Jason Ramdan, Allan Christie and Jordine Meyer
- Ryan Lessard, Cory Shen and Mateen Latif
CA$H pits the teams against each other in friendly competitions stressing the use of Chartered Accounting skills such as teamwork, leadership, organizational ability and time management.
Prizes include $3,000 for first place, plus an additional $1,000 for the university's accounting club, $1,500 for second and $750 for third. All teams will also be aiming to succeed last year's winner – the University of Toronto – St. George Campus – as the CA$H champs.
The Institute can put reporters in touch with participating students in most Ontario communities. The top three university teams will be announced at the event on Saturday, January 9 with a news release to follow January 11. Professional and student media are invited to attend the event.
