Editors Note: A photo and a video are included with this Press Release.

The town of Vulcan, Alberta is bracing for a Klingon invasion as they prepare to host what could be their biggest Star Trek convention ever.

Vulcan has become a mecca for all things Star Trek. The town celebrates the famous television and film franchise every year during the community-wide Star Trek convention.

The 2009 Star Trek convention runs June 12 - 14 and it promises to be an out of this world experience. Event highlights include a parade, fireworks display, softball tournament, live entertainment and appearances by former Star Trek cast members. Klingon fanclub KAG Kanada has also chosen to celebrate their 20th anniversary at the event. A full list of events is available on the Vulcan Tourism website.

Vulcan's Star Trek hub is their Tourism and Trek Station. "We had almost 17,000 visitors come through last year," says Dayna Dickens, Vulcan Tourism's spokesperson. "It's a totally unexpected experience in a little town on the prairies."

Besides perusing the station's collection of Star Trek memorabilia, visitors can try out the Vulcan Space Adventure virtual reality game or take a self-guided walking tour of the town. The Tourism and Trek station is open to visitors year-round.
