L.A.'s Water Quality Issues Addressed by National Experts After Propositions O and V, What Happens Next?

SANTA BARBARA, CA--(Marketwire - June 8, 2007) - Proposition O, the $500 million bond measure for cleaning up L.A.'s runoff pollution passed in November 2004. The City of Santa Monica passed the similar Measure V to clean up their stormwater in November 2006. What happens next? National stormwater experts and key water agency professionals directly responsible for launching the ambitious new programs will discuss on-the-ground techniques, technologies, and relevant issues for achieving water quality goals throughout the entire Los Angeles County region. The panel is one of four full-day workshops that will cover stormwater pollution prevention techniques relevant to Southern California, to be held Friday, June 15, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. at the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills. Los Angeles City Councilmember Jan Perry, co-author and champion of Proposition O, will speak at 2:45 p.m. on Prop O's promise for cleaning L.A.'s waters.

Presented by StormCon, the world's largest stormwater conference, each full-day workshop features nationally recognized experts from the across the nation. The Warner Center Marriott is located at 21850 Oxnard Street in Woodland Hills, California.

Professionals from the City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board, Port of Long Beach, City of Malibu, Orange County, Riverside County, and national homebuilders will attend along with hundreds of municipal professionals, engineers, consultants, and contractors from across California to learn state-of-the-art stormwater pollution-prevention and monitoring techniques. Afternoon Guest Speaker Los Angeles City Councilmember Jan Perry, Ninth District

Councilmember Jan Perry co-authored and is credited with the passage of Proposition O. The funds created by Proposition O will be used to stop dangerous pollutants and bacteria from flowing from neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles into waterways. The measure benefits every neighborhood in Los Angeles by upgrading storm-drain systems, eliminating flooding at key intersections, creating new community parks, and improving water quality.

Morning Guest Speaker Michael Drennan, Vice President, Brown and Caldwell

The City of Santa Monica hired Brown and Caldwell in 2004 to prepare their citywide Watershed Management Plan that identifies over $100 million in capital improvements to clean up stormwater quality with multipurpose projects that also provide wildlife habitat, recreation, and water supply. Michael Drennan is the project manager responsible for the plan that was instrumental in supporting the recent passage of Measure V.
