LONDON - OFL CAMPAIGN FOR A $10 AN HOUR MINIMUM WAGE

NEWS CONFERENCE - OFL AND LONDON & DISTRICT LABOUR COUNCIL, CAW LOCAL 27 HALL, 606 FIRST STREET, LONDON - WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 31 AT 1:00 P.M.

Attention: Assignment Editor, Media Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 30, 2007) - Ontario Federation of Labour, President Wayne Samuelson and Tim Carrie, President of the London & District Labour Council will outline the urgent need for a $10 an hour minimum wage at a news conference in London, Ontario on Wednesday, January 31.

"This is not just a Toronto issue," Samuelson said. "It's an issue for working families in every part of this province. When the McGuinty Liberals can vote themselves a 25% salary increase, they can surely find the time and energy to raise the minimum wage above the poverty line.

"The salary increase alone is more than a full year's income of a worker earning minimum wage here in Ontario," Samuelson said.

The OFL representing over 700,000 workers and their families has an important role to play in bringing this debate to workplaces and communities across the province.
