Larry Sadler Celebrated for Service to Co-operative Association

GUELPH, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 26, 2007) - Larry Sadler was there for the beginning of the Ontario Co-operative Association (On Co-op), and he remains a committed - and vocal - supporter of the organization. On October 17th, Larry will be presented with a Co-operative Spirit Recognition Award for his conscientious service and outstanding achievements to On Co-op. His nominator for the award was the board of directors of On Co-op.

Since 1997, Larry Sadler has played an important role of the governance of the Ontario Co-operative Association and its predecessor, CCA, Ontario Region through positions on committees, working groups and the board of directors. Larry is a founding director of On Co-op, in 2002, and guided the organization for many years as its treasurer. He was a member of On Co-op's finance committee until recently, and remains a member of the board's government regulations working group.

Larry also readily volunteers outside the formal committee and board structure; for instance he recently reviewed On Co-op's draft guide to the provincial Co-operative Corporations Act.

Larry is well known for his logical thinking, especially on matters related to co-operatives. Brian Iler, who sat with Larry on many On Co-op committees, says that Sadler provided a "carefully thought out and often unique perspective." Cathy Chamberlain, former vice chair of On Co-op's board, agrees. "Not only has Larry demonstrated dedication and ensured discipline in financial matters of the association; he has brought his analytical thinking to important issues of the association and reminds its members of their role in governance."

Larry has made co-operation a part of his life since 1967 when he joined the Waterloo Co-operative Residence Inc., a housing co-op managed and governed by students. Ten years later, with his BBA in hand, he co-managed Chemical Valley Co-op grocery store. Larry began his association with Ontario Natural Food co-op in 1986, prior to returning to school for an MBA. Returning later to ONFC as Financial Manager, he now watches over the co-ops data systems as IT services manager. A tenacious leader, his champions call him "steadfastly committed to the co-operative model."

Larry Sadler, of Etobicoke Ontario, will be presented with his Outstanding Contribution to the Ontario Co-operative Association Spirit Award on Wednesday October 17 during the 9th annual Co-operative Spirit Recognition Awards banquet and ceremony. The awards ceremony, the crowning jewel of the Co-operative Conference and Gala, takes place at the Royal Botanical Gardens, 680 Plains Road West in Burlington Ontario.

The Co-operative Conference and Gala, now in its 7th year, is a two-day event that brings together co-op sector supporters, champions and friends from across Ontario and beyond for professional development, meetings and networking. The conference includes tours of Hamilton-area co-ops and more than a dozen workshops and sessions. This October, the Spirit Recognition Award banquet, a tradition in the Ontario co-operative sector for almost 10 years, will celebrate the successes of 10 of Ontario's most distinguished co-operators, including Larry Sadler.

The Ontario Co-operative Association (On Co-op), host of the Co-op Conference and Gala, and the Co-operative Spirit Recognition Awards ceremony, is a resource and common voice for Ontario credit unions and co-operatives in the areas of co-operative development, government relations, membership and communications, and lifelong co-operative learning.
