Latin American Minerals Appoints Michael Brown and Ted Freedman to the Board; Grants Options

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 25, 2008) - Latin American Minerals Inc. (TSX VENTURE:LAT) is pleased to announce that Mr. Michael J.H. Brown and Mr. Theodore (Ted) J. Freedman have been appointed to the Board.

Mr. Brown, a 35-year veteran of mining finance and analysis, is President of Capital Markets Advisory. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Crystallex International Corporation, Queenston Mining Inc., Afri-Can Marine Minerals Corporation and Canary Resources Inc. Previously, Mr. Brown held positions with Macquarie Bank of Australia, as President and Chief Executive Officer of Macquarie North America, and then as Vice Chairman. Prior to that, Mr. Brown was a Managing Partner with Gordon Capital Corporation, responsible for mining investment banking. He was a founder of McLean McCarthy's equity research in 1973, and continued as mining analyst and Managing Director of Research after the firm was acquired by Deutsche Bank. Earlier in his career, Mr. Brown also held positions in mining corporate finance and analysis with Rio Algom and then with investment dealer, Harris & Partners Limited. Mr. Brown served for 14 years as a member of the List Committee of the Toronto Stock Exchange and was a Governor of the Exchange for two years. He is past President of the Mineral Resources Analysts Group, a member of the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts and is a Chartered Financial Analyst and registered Professional Engineer.

Mr. Freedman has extensive experience as a leader in health care and his achievements are well recognized and distinguished. He actively served Mount Sinai Hospital for over thirty years, most recently as President and Chief Executive Officer, and currently remains an Emeritus Director of the hospital. In addition to his many roles in the academic field, including Associate Professor in the Department of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, he is a former Chairman (only the second Canadian) of the Accrediting Commission on Education for Health Services Administration, the official accrediting body for Master's Degree health administration programs throughout North America, based in Washington, D.C. Other contributions include past Chair of the Change Foundation of the Ontario Hospital Association, founding Chair of the Ontario Health Research Alliance, past Chair of the Toronto Academic Health Sciences Council, and past Chair of the Ontario Council of Teaching Hospitals, former Director of the Home Care Program for Metro Toronto and former Director of the Metropolitan Toronto District Health Council. Mr. Freedman is currently a Director of Saint Elizabeth Health Care and member of the Editorial Advisory Board at Longwoods Publishing Corporation, for Healthcare Quarterly Publications. Mr. Freedman has lectured and established important educational and research collaborations with respected academic centers in China and Hong Kong and established significant technology and research partnerships with private enterprise in Japan. Mr. Freedman is a Life Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and has won many awards from professional organizations for contributions to the field of health administration, including the Regent's Award of the ACHE and the first Eugenie M. Stuart Award of Merit for demonstrated excellence in teaching. Mr. Freedman was honoured with the establishment of the Ted Freedman/Agilent Technologies/Ontario Hospital Association Award, presented annually to an organization or individual demonstrating excellence in transforming the healthcare industry through the use of technology and education. Mr. Freedman is a former Director of a publicly traded mining exploration company and currently is a Director of two Canadian private exploration companies. His considerable expertise in management, corporate governance and community and government relations will strengthen LAT's already strong team. He will also provide valued expertise on various social issues encountered on a daily basis by the company on all its projects.

In accordance with its stock option plan, which reserves 10% of the issued and outstanding common shares of the company from time to time for option grants, LAT has granted 100,000 stock options to each of Mr. Brown and Mr. Freedman. In addition, LAT has granted 648,500 stock options to senior officers, directors and employees. The stock options are exercisable for up to five years at a price of $0.65 per share and vest in four equal tranches in quarterly intervals. All options granted and any common shares issued upon their due exercise are subject to a statutory four-month hold from the grant date.
