Over the past century, the evolving roles and responsibilities of the Law Society of Alberta have mirrored and contributed to social and economic growth in Alberta.

Throughout its history, the Law Society has recognized that lawyers have an important role to play in ensuring fair, equitable and affordable access to justice for all Albertans. As early as 1932, the benchers introduced a Needy Litigants program and in the 1950s the Law Society began the work that led to the establishment of a Legal Aid Program in Alberta. Today, the contemporary Society is a vibrant organization that fulfils its mandate and protects the public interest.
