Law Society Tribunal Orders and Dispositions to February 26, 2010

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 26, 2010) -

Attention News Editors:

The Law Society of Upper Canada regulates the lawyers and paralegals of Ontario in the public interest. The Law Society ensures that all lawyers and licensed paralegals in Ontario meet standards of learning, professional competence and professional conduct that are appropriate for the legal services provided.

As part of this mandate, the Law Society's Hearing and Appeal Panels recently heard the following matters. Hearing and Appeal Panels are responsible for determining the appropriate disposition of cases.

Paul John Anderson (1991), of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Appeal of the Order dated August 4, 2009 is dismissed. The suspension will start 10 days after the release of the reasons or on a date agreed upon by the parties.
 
Edmund Anthony Clarke (1989), of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer's licence is revoked.
 
Peter David Clark, of the City of Toronto
Decision: The application for relicensing is denied.
 
Joseph A. N. De Teresi (Paralegal Applicant)
Decision: The licensing application is denied.
 
Asher Yeshaye Frankel (1983), of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer shall receive a reprimand.
 
Kerry Kathleen Gearin (2000), of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer is suspended for three months, starting April 1, 2010. The suspension shall continue indefinitely until specified conditions are met.
 
Mary Margaret Eleanor Haig (1973), of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer is reprimanded.
 
Brian Patrick Horgan (1976), of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer shall surrender his licence within 30 days of the release of this Decision and Order. Should his resignation not be received within that time period, his licence shall be revoked immediately.
 
Roy Frederick Olaf John Karlstedt (1980), of the City of Thunder Bay
Decision: The Lawyer is reprimanded.
 
Aaron Lang (1974), of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Order of the Hearing Panel dated February 19, 2008 is varied. The balance of $25,000 owing to the Law Society will be paid in monthly instalments of $1388.88 starting February 1, 2010.
 
Colin Cameron Leon Lyle (1998), of the City of Ottawa.
Decision: The Lawyer is suspended on an interlocutory basis starting at the end of the business day on December 23, 2009, and continuing until a final order is made by a Hearing Panel.
 
James Michael Pushie (Paralegal Applicant)
Decision: The licensing application is refused.
 
Michael James Strong (1985), of the Town of Oakville
Decision: The Lawyer is suspended for one month, starting at the end of his administrative suspension, and continuing indefinitely until terms are met to the satisfaction of the Director of Professional Regulation of the Law Society.
 
Bradly Johnston Vance (1985), of the Town of Whitby
Decision: The Lawyer's licence is revoked.
 
Bill Wong (1979), of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer's application for stay pending appeal is granted on specified terms and conditions.
