Lawrence Public Schools Launches New Web Site

LAWRENCE, MA--(Marketwire - November 20, 2008) - The Lawrence Public Schools today launched its new Web site,, giving the school system one of the most robust tools for Web-based communication in Massachusetts. As a resource for parents, students, teachers and the community, the site provides information and facilitates communication to help create a college-going culture for all students.

"Our ability to leverage technology as individuals and as a school system is of critical importance in our efforts to prepare our children for success," said Lawrence Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Wilfredo T. Laboy. "The new Lawrence Public Schools Web site represents not only a commitment to establishing more efficient lines of communication with the community, but also is a statement that the people of Lawrence shall have the resources and educational experiences that make this one of the most progressive school systems in the nation."

The site, which features vibrant colors and images of the students, teachers and administrators, helps keep the community connected with up-to-the-minute information about important news and events in the school system. In-depth sections focused on the offices of Curriculum & Instruction and Operations & Support Services ensure that the entire school community has the resources and information necessary to focus on improving student achievement in Lawrence. The Parents and Students section offers families information to help play an active role in the school community. Finally, a News and Media section provides information regarding current events in the District as well as electronic versions of the District's acclaimed Lawrence Educator magazine. Throughout the site, brief side-bar features highlight some of the District's brightest students and educators, called "Lawrence Achievers;" while "Did You Know" side-bars share facts and statistics about the school system. With this collection of resources, the Lawrence Public Schools has made available the tools necessary to help prepare students and the community for a successful future.

"As a school system, we have a deep commitment to helping students develop twenty-first century skills," said Michael Sullivan, Mayor of the City of Lawrence and Chair of the Lawrence School Committee. "Our new site is a means of supporting an academic and professional culture that embraces the use of the latest technology to meet our goals."

In the months ahead, Lawrence Public Schools plans to develop individual sites for each school in the District; each mirroring the design and style of the new Lawrence Public Schools site. Content on the District and schools sites will be maintained and refreshed on a regular basis so that Internet remains an integral and valuable tool for communication in the District.

The site was developed in partnership between the Lawrence Public Schools and the Haselton Group, a communications consulting firm that supports school districts and other small- and mid-sized organizations with their communications strategy and execution.

"The Haselton Group was central to this process, working as a trusted part of my team," said Superintendent Laboy. "Bringing and understanding of the unique communications needs of school districts, the Haselton Group drove the development process from the initial strategy, to design and development, through to launch."
