CHARLOTTE, NC--(Marketwire - November 20, 2009) - King & Spalding, a leading international law
firm, announced today that Timothy G. Barber has joined the firm's
Charlotte office as a partner. Barber is an accomplished trial lawyer with
particular expertise in patent, business and commercial litigation.
"Tim is another outstanding addition to the firm's litigation practice and
to our Charlotte office," said Jeff Brown, managing partner of King &
Spalding's Charlotte office. "He has been a major player in some of the
country's top patent litigation decisions and continues to be a major force
in this active area of law. His breadth of experience in the courtroom,
cutting across numerous areas of law and industry, makes him a valuable
resource for clients firm-wide."
Barber joins King & Spalding from Womble Carlyle, where he served as the
head of the firm's patent litigation team since 2006. Previously, he was
the head of the firm's business litigation practice group.
Over the past 10 years, Barber has increased his emphasis on patent and
trade-secret litigation, while maintaining a strong practice in business
litigation. His extensive trial experience strengthens King & Spalding's
reputation in intellectual property law for having "go-to" first-chair
trial lawyers and complements the firm's first-tier technical and
scientific expertise.
"We are delighted to have Tim join us," said Courtland L. Reichman, chair
of King & Spalding's global intellectual property practice group. "His
remarkable trial experience fits well with our global IP team's strategy of
combining talented first-chair trial and business lawyers with true
technical specialization."
Barber's substantial jury trial experience includes more than 30 trials. He
has served as lead counsel on complex commercial cases ranging from
anti-trust, securities and shareholder class actions to patent infringement
cases involving genetically modified crops. He was lead counsel for Food
Lion in its high-profile trial against ABC's "Prime Time Live."
Barber is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has been
recognized as one of the nation's top trial lawyers by Chambers USA, Best
Lawyers in America and North Carolina Super Lawyers. He earned a J.D.
degree from Wake Forest University School of Law and a B.A. degree from
Kenyon College.
"I am excited to join King & Spalding and help contribute to the further
growth of the firm's respected IP litigation and business litigation
practices," Barber said. "I'm also looking forward to working with the
firm's other talented litigators."
