WHAT: Special media viewing of one of a series of five Library and
Archives Canada Winkworth exhibitions travelling across the
country. An opportunity to interview and tour the exhibition
with Ian E. Wilson, Librarian and Archivist of Canada, and
Jim Burant, Curator of the exhibition.

WHY: Passionate collector, scholar and historian, Peter Winkworth
was fascinated by Canadian art throughout his lifetime.
Mr. Winkworth amassed a huge collection of prints, drawings,
watercolours, oil paintings and other objects that document
over five decades of Canadian history. In 1983, Peter
Winkworth received the Order of Canada for his contribution
to Canada's cultural heritage.

In 2002, Library and Archives Canada acquired more that
4,000 works of art from Mr.Winkworth's private
collection.The Peter Winkworth Collection of Canadiana
represents one of the largest and most important collections
the institution has ever acquired. Early Impressions of
Quebec is composed of items selected form this collection
relating to the history of Quebec-many of which have never
been exhibited before. Other items in the exhibition include
paintings, rare books and other documents from the permanent
holdings of Library and Archives Canada. The exhibition runs
until September 5, 2006.

WHERE The media preview will be held in the East Corridor at
Library and Archives Canada, 395 Wellington Street in Ottawa.
