Lieutenant-General Andrew Leslie Appointed Chief of Transformation

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 30, 2010) - The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, is pleased to announce the selection of Lieutenant-General Andrew Leslie to the new role of Chief of Transformation. Lt.-Gen. Leslie will assume the position as of June 22, 2010.

"The development of a Chief of Transformation position builds on the Government's commitment to modernize the Canadian Forces, as laid out in the Canada First Defence Strategy," said Minister MacKay. "Lt.-Gen. Leslie's breadth of experience and knowledge place him in a unique position to guide the Canadian Forces with addressing the new challenges in the months and years to come."

The Chief of Transformation will act as the driving force behind organization changes and re-positioning the Canadian Forces for the future. Specifically, the Chief of Transformation will be responsible for increasing organizational efficiency and effectiveness.

Lt.-Gen. Leslie's career has included a succession of field tours and brigade, division and mission leadership roles. His appointments have included Commander of 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group; Commander Land Force Central Area; Commander Task Force Kabul and Deputy Commander of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan; Assistant Chief of the Land Staff; Director General Strategic Planning; and, most recently, Chief of the Land Staff. Lt.-Gen. Leslie has received the Order of Military Merit (Commander), the Meritorious Service Cross and the Meritorious Service Medal for his service to the Canadian Forces.
