Little Mosque on the Prairie to Receive Prestigious 'Search for Common Ground' Humanitarian Award in New York and to Receive the `Canada Award' at the 2007 Geminis

Past 'Search For Common Ground Award' recipients include Bishop Desmond Tutu, Jimmy Carter, Muhammad Ali, Ted Koppel

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 9, 2007) - Little Mosque on the Prairie, Canada's break-out hit comedy about a Muslim community assimilating into a fictional rural town, will be presented with two very prestigious awards including the Search For Common Ground Award and the Canada Award, announced Mary Darling, the show's executive producer.

The Search For Common Ground Award seeks to recognize individuals and organizations that, through their unique and individual approach, have taken the task of finding common ground between parties in conflict to new heights. Past recipients have included Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Ted Koppel, President Jimmy Carter, Muhammad Ali, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and former Senator George Mitchell.

"This is a very humbling award to receive and it feels like a confirmation of our vision. We wanted to create a show that would allow people to laugh while hopefully breaking down stereotypes. We felt that comedy would be a great way to inspire people to dialogue together and to build understanding of each other no matter what their beliefs," said Darling.

Little Mosque on the Prairie will also receive the 'Canada Award' at this year's Gemini Awards. Supported by the Multiculturalism Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage and presented by The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, the award honours excellence in mainstream television programming that reflects the racial and cultural diversity of Canada. It aims to promote greater opportunities for ethnic and visible minority professionals within the broadcasting industry on both sides of the camera.

Recently it was announced that the show would air in France, French-speaking Africa, Israel, Turkey, Dubai, Gaza and the West Bank. Little Mosque on the Prairie's new season will deliver 20 new episodes to air on the CBC.
